What do you guys use to buff your nails and clean up the cuticles?

I've had a tough time finding a consistence source for nail buffing supplies.

I generally buy whatever CVS or Walgreen's have available. Their products are not great, but I haven't found a source for better ones. I'm also interested in seeing what's recommended in this thread.

I am really interested in being able to give myself a DIY manicure too, although I'm never going to be able to shape my nails like the girls at the salon can. I've been meaning to get myself some cuticle nippers and a crystal file. As far as buffing I've just been using this nail file/buffer that has these 4 sections for smoothing out nails. It is by revlon and is dirt cheap but it seems like after a month or two it doesn't work as well anymore. Actually one of the sections seems to leave scratches on my nails! So I'm sure there are better alternatives out there, but you can probably find the thing at your drug store and use it at least 5 times maybe even 10 before you need a new one. And if I recall correctly they're like $3 or something, so you can definitely just buy a few of these if you like the results.

Thank you!

Has anyone had success?

I've used the ones sold at the little kiosks in the mall, but they're absorbently expensive and rather annoying to deal with. Some of them work well, some of them do not.

I just trim my nailwhen they get long enough to accumulate dirt underneath, wipe back/ clear off dead skin with my hands, mousturize around the nail areas of my hand, and avoid biting them. Haven't had much inclination to give them much more attention than this for years, and they seem fine.

The revlon shape and buff works really well.

I took the side files off and tossed them because every time i slipped it would put a gouge in the nail, after that they looked perfect.

I just push back my cuticles with a cuticle tool once a month or so. Do not try cutting cuticles yourself, they will fall off after a few days on their own (I got an infection once from cutting them, had to take antibiotics.... and my nail grew funky for a few years). Go to Sally beauty supply and get a cuticle remover lotion and cuticle oil. The oil is great for your toenails too.

Not entirely comfortable with the buffed look. About once a week or so I'll clip and then smooth with a drugstore-quality emery board. Occasionally I'll get my g/f to apply her cuticle cream and push back the cuticles for me so that the bases of the half moons in the nail beds are cleaner, but that's it. I've had professional manicures and while they are relaxing, I find that like cleaning my house, I do a better job myself.

I'm not a fan of mine looking too buffed either. This morning I clipped them and pushed the cuticles back a bit. I thought that was enough for now.
