"office survival" kit-what's in your messenger bag?

IDK if this has been done, but last year at school I started carrying a Filson 256 to school, and it's made all the difference. I don't mind staying on campus all day now that I'm able to bring a little bit of home with me.

I usually carry my iPod, water bottle, snacks, vitamins, burt's bees lip stuff, etc.

Anyone have ideas for what else to add to bring to my future office/cubicle job to make it a little more pleasant? I think it's comforting to have a few little luxuries or reminders of home with you when you can't actually be at home.

Contingent upon office policies, of course.

I work in an office where I keep an extra toothbrush and toothpaste, a small bottle of cologne, hand lotion, lip balm, and an extra shirt and tie. One drawer of a filing cabinet also contains extra lunch essentials: plasticware, disposable bowls and cups, and condiments stolen from the local fast-food eateries. At other times, when I was working long hours I'd also keep a shaving kit in the office.

I don't keep any of these things in a bag, I have them in my office desk or closet.

So I guess the question is do many people carry messenger bags to work?

I have the similar setup at work. I also keep an electric tea kettle, cup, and 4 different types of loose leaf tea. I also keep a couple golf balls around to play with when really bored, a book, and a bullwhip. The bullwhip because a co-worker wanted to see it and I just kind of left it and never took it home.

Forgot that I also keep a tea kettle, cups, tea bags, tissues, and a bullwhip in my office, too. The bullwhip keeps the students in line (joking about the bullwhip) and the tissues are also for students (not joking about this one, unfortunately).

A lot of the things mentioned are more the type of things I keep in my desk -- the french press, teas, supply of Fuze drinks, water jugs, etc, and less stuff you keep in a messenger -- what old-school hunters would term a 'possibles' kit. I carry band-aids, electrical tape (can fix stuff, good for major cuts, and can even be a torniquet), flashlight, leatherman, mints, travel toothbrush, tylenol, cough drops, comb, earplugs, tissues, $136, machinist's scale, purel, little tube of hand cream in winter, chapstick, spare card case, and at the bottom of my bag, a small towel and a 30 gallon, heavy duty clear plastic bag (raincoat, seat, whatever). I like the idea of a little cologne decant and will add that. ~

Lighter! When going out I try to carry a windproof lighter, and I don't smoke. Attractive women will come up and ask for a light, or I'll see some other guy with a cheap bic trying to light them up and fail. You can get in close, they'll smell your cologne from your wrists, they get a rush of nicotine while looking right at you (positive association). I've met more girls at bars just lighting their smokes.
