i saw one of these on the corner of wilshire and centinela in la. hideous and i didn't even know what it was till i went into the office and goodled it...

Agreed with you. It does look better in person, much. Drives quite well too.
BMW understands the market segment they are going after. And they mostly don't inhabit this little back alley of the innert00b.
