La Trappe (from Netherlands) is made by (Koningshoeven) and St. Sixtus (in Beligium) makes Westvleteren which I must have liked, if I remembered the name of the abbey. I don't believe I've ever tried Achel, Mariwald, or Rochefort.

Incidentally, Chimay cheese is nice as a mild cracker accoutrement.

Rochefort is pretty widely available and worth a try.

cinq cents (white cap) is the triple

chimay, orval,rochefort, westmalle, westvleteren,achel

Interesting... I stand corrected (based on wikipedia), however it is interesting to note that the Grande Reserve does have a higher ABV, and is not a Quadruppel. They don't really say what it is... just a "darker ale".

blue is 9%, red 7%, white 8%

As others have said, it's not the best Trappist (I prefer Westmalle, if only for their tripel), but that's not a knock against it.

1. White
2. Blue
3. Red

red is dubble and blue is a strong dark ale

Easily blue, but I can get big bottles of Chimay red for $6.50 in Canada so I usually have a few on hand. Apparently I only have one right now though, I should fix that.

Mmm, I like it as well.

I have a bottle of the Eisbock at the moment, waiting for a reason to drink 500ml of 13% beer or whatever it is. Never tried the Eisbock but the regular is great.

I started drinking Chimay about 8-10 years ago. First one was Red. My buddy always had the stuff around and he always wanted me to try some. I always refused and thought, 'damn, he can't afford bud light'

First tried it at Les Nomades in Chicago. I've been hooked since then. I find that the white goes extremely well with spicy food, especially Asian. Blue is good anytime.

I haven't had the ten but I was drinking Maredsous 8 last night. My neighborhood place has it on tap right now. I love doubles in general but this one was first class. Better than the red Chimay IMO

Maredsous 10 is really good, super smooth. 8 is nice too, but 6 is bland. Avoid, I still have a bottle of 6 lying around but I don't care to drink it.

Tripel Karmeliet hits the spot.
