Does anybody know any good neck exercises? I would like to strengthen my neck a little bit and increase its size by about 1/2 inch or so.

Invest in a 40$ head harness and some weight plates. You will get results fast, but start with light weights or you'll have some uncomfortable days ahead.

Boxers do lots of neck bridges. I don't know if it'll increase the size of your neck (marginally, if at all I'd assume) but you'll be able to take a punch better.

i do neck raises on the 4-way hs machine and have a headgear thing i attach a plate to.

I'm always a little leery of contraptions that stress the neck. It seems like an injury waiting to happen. I think any exercise that hits the traps should help with the neck as well. Heavy shrugs, upright rows, and seated cable rows where you bring the handle up towards your chest instead of your waist (targeting traps instead of lats) should help.

i can do direct neck work without pain but can no longer do shrugs at any weight.

Gotcha. For the OP: upper back exercises and shrugs are your best bet to work out your neck. I should know: I went from a 14.5 to a 15 in under 6 months.

Neck bridges on the floor or isometrics against a door frame will increase your neck size rapidly.

Be really careful with the neck bridges. Surest way to break your neck if you don't know what you are doing.

When I played football, we had a machine that was a partial cage around your head, connected to pulley weights. I think the only movement it allowed was side to side, nothing to the back.
