House isn't on tonight

One of the few good shows on television isn't aired tonight because 24, a show which sucked and continues to suck more, is on for an extra hour so more people can get to bed early.

Thanks Fox. Good night.

House is terrible. Medical dramas, as a whole, are terrible.

It's not a drama and the only connection it has with medicine is the setting.

The writing is good.

From Fox's own House page.

SHOW INFORMATION HOUSE is an innovative take on the medical drama in which the villain is a medical malady and the hero is an irreverent, controversial doctor who trusts no one, least of all his patients

Small-time street hood Gigli (Ben Affleck) has a reputation for big-time screw-ups. Ricki (Jennifer Lopez) is a tough gal gangster. When they're paired together on an assignment that careens wildlyout of control, will they find a way to work through their personal differences and work out their mutual attraction? Directed by Martin Brest (Scent of a Woman), GIGLI is a high-octane romantic comedy that packs serious heat!

Fair enough.

The Caped Crusader returns to battle the abominable Mr. Freeze and green-thumbed Poison Ivy. To save his ailing wife, Dr. Victor Fries turns to a life of crime after a hideous accident makes him unable to tolerate even moderate temperatures, while Dr. Pamela Isley falls victim to mutated plant DNA when things go awry in a jungle laboratory funded by Wayne Industries. Of course, though their interests are diametrically opposed (Freeze wants another Ice Age; Ivy wants to make the world safe for plants), the two villains team up to defeat Gotham's dynamic duo of Batman and Robin, who are joined by butler Alfred's motorcycle-obsessed niece as Batgirl. And when Alfred is diagnosed as having the same terminal disease as Freeze's wife, the trio find themselves not only fighting an altruistic battle, but a personal one as well. A frenetic, colorful, and often overwhelming sequel to "Batman," "Batman Returns," and "Batman Forever."

How would this week's House have been any different from the last episode? Watch a rerun and be happy. Here, I'll summarize for you - A person gets sick with an unknown illness. House is tricked into treating the patient. It's not Lupus. The illness reflects in some way on House's inability to socialize with others. His staff breaks into the patient's home, discovering some secret hurt which allows House to deduce the actual disease. He argues with his boss, pops some pills, and following an unorthodox treatment cures the illness. The end.

MrsG and I share your anger. I'm really sick of Fox preempting its one good show (House) in favor of its other hour-long drivel (24, American Idol, etc.).

It's a drama, but I agree the medicine is secondary. Gregory House might be my all-time favorite TV character, and the rest of the characters compliment him well, Wilson and Foreman in particular. The medicine is really just a vehicle for House to spend 45 minutes being awesome. It also draws a lot of influence from Sherlock Holmes, so it's no accident that he spends his time solving puzzles.

Yup.

And Hugh Laurie continually shows himself to be an amazing actor. I loved his gay alter ego from last week. In the restaurant scene from last week, as soon as Wilson sat down at the table all the homosexuality drained out of House's face.

+1

I really liked the earlier episodes when it revolved around House and his team (Cameron, Chase, and Foreman). It wasn't the same after he started the competition to find their replacements.

Basically, yeah. Except there are a couple continuing story arcs that span several episodes, and some a season. I like this a lot because it actually continues the lives and relationships of the characters where the last episode left off instead of copping a "we're an episodic show so whatever happens in any other week doesn't matter". After a while the medical part becomes the background for the characters and their interactions. Both are enjoyable for different reasons and it works well. And hell, other than a couple random episodes, I started like mid-season 4 and I'm already hooked into the storylines.

Laurie really is outstanding. I really hope that, when the show ends, he ends up getting work elsewhere. Aside from Blackadder, House is really the only work I've seen him do that takes advantage of his talent.

That scene was awesome. The gay/not gay thing was hilarious as a whole.

It got a little bumpy during the replacement, but I think it's hit its stride again. They've spent a lot of the last few seasons developing the relationship between Wilson and House, and it's really paid off. I really liked it when they started going the Wilson-House direction, but it's turned out even better than I expected.
