This is not far from the truth. Lexicon is catering to the pro installer crowd whose customers want matching faceplates on all of their equipment. If Lex had been upfront about what the BD-30 actually is, I don't think the reaction would have been as severe. As someone who's used Lexicon processors since the mid 90s, and someone who's an avid fan and admirer of the company for its science- and engineering-based approaches to surround sound, I find this disappointing. However, it's not the first time they've done something like this. Their RT-20 DVD player was a rewrapped Marantz that sold for $5000. Yes, they know about how unhappy their most vocal supporters were about that. --Andre

Do you use Logic 7 for your stereo recordings? I fired off an email to Revel to find a dealer for Salon2s btw!! Gonna get some listening time in even if i'm not pulling the trigger till i find a job. Kevin Voecks' approach to audio is refreshing in a high-end full of voodoo science. Btw, I included this in my email to Revel, but do you know anything about the lifespan of butyl surrounds? I've read of foam surrounds degrading (sunlight I think?) and butyl surrounds getting stiff and subtly altering the sound over long periods of time. With this sort of investment I'm going to want peak performance for a LONG time.

Yes --- it's the default setting for my setup. Works great for all the sample rates the MC-12HD supports (44 through 96 kHz). It also has a mode to expand 5.1 to 7.1.

There are a lot of good people working in Harman, many of them world class, like Voecks. The old Lexicon crew, who are now all dispersed at other companies, was also in that category. That makes the BD-30 all the more frustrating. --Andre
