OK guys....... I am coming to Tokyo at Chinese New Year. I will be there for 4-5 nights. Since I am always open to making life interesting and meeting new forumfolk, this is what I want to do. I want to spend one of those nights sleeping in a capsule, and I want to spend the other 4 crashed on the sofas/floors/spare rooms of Japan-based forum guys. You will have to take me out somewhere (it's ok, I'm low maintenance) and my tastes tend to err on the side of new local experiences when I travel...so, some local shops, takeout joints, bars, clubs, whatever you normally do. I'll just play tagalong. It's ok though, I'm kinda fun I will then write up how-I-rolled-with [WHOEVER] on the forum. The next morning, I will roll up my sleeping bag, get on a train, and head to the next forum-dude's place and do it all over again. All people who host me will be proudly presented with a limited edition Saigon Scooter Center t-shirt and the eternal good graces of moderators here at SF. Hell, Ive never claimed to be uncorruptible. Who's down? Dates looking most likely to be 15-20 Feb. - Matt

Well have fun. Make sure you visit the huge fish market and also make sure you get kancho'ed by a 10 year old.

Actually, their weekday lunch is good, and while a bit pricey, is not going to break most budgets. Also, you get to actually SEE the city, cause it's like... daytime. 4500 yen IIRC. Sunday brunch is more expensive, but includes a glass of Champagne.

If you want to enjoy that view, just have a couple of drinks at night in the lounge bar. The restaurant is good, but not that great, as there are many better choices in Tokyo.

I should be able to put you up for a night and take you to a cheaper yet fun part of town. You are a trust worthy guy and I know you wont try and lape me or anything.

+1. It's sort of like picking the most expensive restaurant near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and being shocked to hear how the only customers in the place are speaking English! J/k... but definitely go in Japan/Tokyo where Japanese people would want to go. If you hit up the places where rich foreigners on business trips frequent, you'll be out of money in two days and won't really have anything outstanding to show for it. Red is going to be a good resource! The man knows his Tokyo. I wish I were there now to take you girls to Ni-chome.

Actually, I have heard good things about the Jules Verne restaurant. Edit: added a link ; 'cause I'm thorough like that.

I knew somebody would catch me on this! I've actually never even been near the Eiffel Tower. I steered clear of that place like it had the plague. But, Tokyo, like Paris... has things that JAPANESE people do... and things that rich foreigners on business trips do. The former are expensive, but make for experiences that will last a lifetime. The latter are "prohibitively expensive" and leave you wondering what all the Tokyo fuss is about, but out of money in about seventeen hours.
