Buying an old Vespa, where?

Hi!

I'm going to buy an old Vespa. 60-70's. Where can I get one the cheapest way?
eBay.it could be one choice but I can't speak italian, do we have any italians over here?

I don't care if it's in bad condition, I'm a fixer.

Please help me, this have been my dream for a long time and I now think it would be a perfect opportunity to get one for the summer.

Where do you live? If you spend more than $400 on a vintage Vespa be sure you know what you are getting. Just like old baseball cards, two cards can both be from the 60s, one worth thousands, the other worth pennies. You wouldn't buy a baseball card for thousands because someone "told" you it was worth a bunch of money.

I wish vespas had a better rep in north america. I would love one for city living.....

If you live in/near a large city there's bound to be a scooter club or group nearby. Maybe get in touch with them. The scooter heads I know buy/sell/trade somewhat regularly and also know where to get repairs done or do repairs themselves. If you're going to ride, especially vintage, it's good to have that kind of support system. Plus, they're enthusiasts with a rep to maintain so they're less likely to completely rip you off.

Exactly. Some of them are quite valuable, and some aren't.

+1 on the scooter club and Craigslist. I used to be VP of a Vespa/Scooter Club in my hometown, someone always had an extra or had a lead on a project bike. Other option is to get one that was a former rental from a SE Asian country or India. They have a lot floating around there, but they are in varying conditions. Or you can save a couple bucks and get a Bajaj which is a license built classic vespa made in India. OR You could always get a brand new PX which has the manual trans and looks/build of the classic Vespas, none of this auto trans too smooth plastic business.

there are pretty big vespa online forums if you search for it. was a member in one of those years ago when I still had one, and got good deals on some accessories.

PXs are butt ugly. I'm selling my 69 Super if you want it....getting it to your shores is your responsibility tho :P

M@T if I had the money, I would be very tempted. Vespas pull a premium round here and I have been itching for a bike or car or something.

Also Stella is a pretty good little scoot for the money compared to Vespas...
