'10 Porsche 911 turbo faster than Carrera

0-60 in under 3.2 seconds this is a momentous occasion in car development history. we've finally reached the point where reasonably affordable cars just go too. damn. fast. 0-60 in <3.2 seconds is so fast it's useless for city/suburb driving. fantastic, but utterly useless. you wont be able to hold down the accelerator for 3.2 seconds without hitting the econobox that you thought was 500m in front of you for the record, car costs less than $150k. certainly not cheap but not quite supercar money - certainly very reasonable for performance that falls almost within striking distance of the veyron's

0-62 mph in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 mph (160 km/h) in 3.9 seconds, 0-200 mph (320 km/h) in 10.9 seconds and made in 1972

yeah that's nuts even if you set aside that particular model, the 917s are what really gave porsche their racing pedigree

The new 911 Turbo certainly stands out, but you also recognise how things have changed if you look at recent cars like the Nissan GT-R or the Corvette Z06, you basically get a great performance for quite little money. The're certainly no 12-cylinder Ferraris but they're still nice cars. As for the 917.

The price of these cars for the performance has never, ever been a "deal". You can build a faster car for a fraction of that money.

$130k = "affordable" ?

I mean, the median home price in US is about $170k...

I am pretty sure you could drive it around still. Maybe not stomp on the gas like you would with a little car, but you could still start without hitting 60 in 3 seconds.

With all the money you've saved, you could certainly afford a really nice coffin after you've been run over by the average grandma's cross-over.

Oh, I forgot:

Lingenfelter TT Corvettes have been known to 0-60 in 1.9 seconds 0-200 in around 18 seconds, 1/4 mile in under 9 seconds... on 93 octane gas while still passing California Emission standards... For under $100k

I'm just thinking out loud here but I'm a little skeptical of this argument. Any really hopped up car I've been in, including Dinan BMW's, Momentum GTI's and Audis and a RUF Porsche, seem to have sacrificed a lot in ride quality, longevity and usability to get really high performance levels. Whereas something like a Skyline or a Turbo is conceived to be a really high performance car but something I could drive everyday.

Thoughts?
