What to wear to yoga classes? and reccomendation for good quality mat?

Going to start yoga this coming week, just some easy beginner classes to learn the poses, and I have no idea what to wear to the place. I was thinking just my normal gym garb but some of my girlfriends i have talked to said most of the guys have on pants?

Anyone got any input or reccomendations? I am guessing very lightweight is the way to go? what about sneakers (or is it done barefoot)? also any reccomendations for good quality yoga mat?

from doing a little searching on here it seems jade and manuka were reccomended.

I wear regular sweats and a tee shirt, myself. they are purpose made yoga pants but I don't see mysefl rushing out to buy a pair. barefoot is the norm, I believe.

I only did yoga once, wore shorts but it was at a hotel class. If I did it again, I'd wear some of the nike dri-fit pants I have.

Just make sure to wear some snug underwear so the inevitable "wood" doesn't get too noticable.

was def. planning on wearing some nike pro compression shorts, usually wear them to the gym. Arent the nike dri fit pants skin tight or am I thinking of something else?

I think you're thinking of the pro-training line they have. My pants aren't too tight at all. I have several pairs....basketball ones should be good too...they sometimes have pretty nice mesh pants by Nike in different weights (and probably all the usual sporting goods suspects). I actually have some non-drifit training pants by nike that are actually pretty perfect...thicker than Dri-fit, thinner than basketball pants.

I got my mat at TJ Maxx. Walmart and Target have them also, although the Maxx one is a bit thicker. I don't remember the brand but its a good mat as far as I can tell.

Shorts so short your balls are almost hanging out.

Might as well wear a rainbow leotard since you've already decided to go to the dark side.

Yoga classes are great. But only if you don't mind being the only male surrounded by a sea of fit women.

Yeah, I can see how that might become a problem and all

To the OP, I've gone a few times. Just go with a regular gym Tshirt and some slim-tight undees. Tuck in your shirt. Maybe do a few poses at home just to check your pants dont fall "up" too much as you're bending over. See if you can borrow a mat from the studio or gym, I wouldn't rush out to buy one just yet

PS - Yoga's a lot harder then it looks. Bring a face towel because you'll be sweating before it's over

Perfect for yoga

What I use: Patagonia capilene 1 baselayer and Mountain Hardwear 3/4 length thermal leggings. You will feel naked but won't look it, and it's easier to 'feel out' the poses when you aren't lost in a sea of fabric.

Man, is it ever. Great endorphin buzz at the end but so much work to get there....
