Fall/Winter 2010 Runway Thread - Page 3

^Thanks. All seasons seem to be very dark, very military, very "safe" but with some subtle details. Also some clever marketing, ala focus on staples and accessories to make $$$ and sellable collections. Not particularly artistic, but wearable.

Probably the first Prorsum season that has really gotten me interested. CN looks like it has every season. DG is boring. Jil is good, but SoCal will wear it better than me.

Looking forward to the others I mentioned earlier, esp. Ferre.

Prorsum was solid as usual, but Fall 2008 is still their best IMO.

burberry is so over the top... pricing seems sure to be astronomical...

I am so sick of Dolce's pretentious tailored pieces- does every season need a satin-trimmed velvet blazer? The sweaters were better but still generally fell into one of two Dolce categories: absurdly chunky or skin-tight. Some of the knitwear coats were nice though.

LOVED the coats and blazers with those tab overlays at Jil. I definitely need one of those gorgeous (buffalo hide?) satchels as well.

Bailey did military-inspired at Prorsum. Again.

Missoni always confuses me; is there really a market every season for $1100 multicolored sweaters? I don't DISLIKE the stuff, but I find it all really similar every season and not as interesting/wearable as something like Etro (another color great) or even Byblos (a more modern take). My guess is that their menswear is probably only 1% of their earnings, but I keep wanting to see more than just "wow! multicolored sweaters!" My full take on Day 1 of the collections I saw is: Safe, subtle, dark, and DULL. Here's a link to the Trussardi 1911 collection; dull as the others, but with a few nice bags: http://www.wwd.com/fashion-week/mens...063?city=milan

Missoni is also similar to Byblos or Moschino or even Fendi RTW in that you never see it for sale in retail establishments, at least not in the U.S.

+1. I always have to wait until I'm in Tokyo to see any of the stuff. I can live without Moschino, but Byblos is consistently interesting and fendi menswear is often very nice. Edit: NY Fashion Mag has the Byblos menswear collections up through this spring. http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshow...runway/byblos/

Holy moly wait until you guys see the Ferre collection. Talk about giving the finger to an economic recession. I saw at least three gigantic fur coats that probably will cost more than a mercedes e-class. Finally, a collection that wasn't "dull" and safe. Though it, too, wasn't a TOTAL hit with me; WTF is up with the fanny packs? Hope this link works: http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Se...=Entertainment BV seemed slightly more "rockish" and edgy, but dull and less relaxed-luxe, which sort of is what they do best. I wasn't crazy about it. http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Se...=Entertainment Cavalli was Cavalli... sort of a mess. I really have no idea who buys Cavalli; it's like Versace on its worst day with a hint of DG. http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Se...=Entertainment Ferragamo looked better than expected; I usually consider Ferragamo just standard businesswear, but it's setting up a nice aesthetic: http://www.wwd.com/fashion-week/mens...400?city=milan

I'm pretty underwhelmed by Jil FW10, the abstraction/pod patch thing is pretty weak overall. The last collection where I feel Raf at Jil even made a ripple for me was with the Mondrian thing he did last year, SS09, which was just a carryover of patterns from an old Raf FW season (which was mediocre in itself) bleh.

Interestingly, buyers who were at Pitti this last week are reporting that many companies are raising their prices this year.
