It's packed up and ready to be brought back. I really wasn't too sure about it to begin with, but I wanted a second opinion, and really didn't know what could and could not be corrected.
Hopefully the next suit won't be such a glaring mistake.
Props for asking for advice, getting some tough love, and handling it with grace. That you posted it here asking for a critique says more about your sense of fits than not being able to pinpoint exactly what was wrong with it. Clearly you knew something was off, and that's half the battle.
FWIW, I have a very difficult time evaluating suit fit when trying stuff on, and it is very easy to make big/expensive mistakes.
I agree with Ianiceman, but, like EAP, also like the "body" that a double FIH knot produces. The compromise: loop it twice but then pull the front blade between the first and second loop rather than behind the first loop. That way, you have the added heft without the tie looking either too sprezzy or improperly tied.
Add me to the minority, this is what I do, and in fact what most instructions I've seen for a double FIH suggest you do.
