I too very much like the shirt/tie/suit combo and agree that if the tie had some texture, it would move from a "9" to a "10." The pocket square works depending upon the occasion. A little much for a 9-5 white collar office environment in the city, but short of that, it's great. The only thing I would suggest here is a different fold. I'd go with a more of a unstudied, degage look myself. The suit looks like it fits perfectly and I do like that cut. So I give this rig a 9.5. Well done!

Hehe. No, I didn't mind being overtaken by Harvey's movie (compliments to him!) at all, but I was unthrilled by the word gimmickry.

Could it be that our steady diet of A&S expats, Rubinacci, and Chan has rendered this look exotic - or is it that it's not as "Poolish" as my tailor leads me to believe? Perhaps you Brits can enlighten me.
- Clean and structured suits are still the mainstay of the Row. - Messy and structured suits are still the mainstay of the High Street. (there are more softly tailored items available in both places than there used to be, due to a wider diversity of sellers/shops, but structure is still dominant)

Reverse snobbery is a favourite pastime here. We all indulge it in different ways. (but you can only really be a reverse snob - as opposed to being just ignorant - if you actually know what you're snubbing, so that's why your friend can recognise that which he shuns.)

OK, I see you have received some feedback already. I am going to be the voice of dissent. I think the shirt is clearly workable with the suit. From what I can tell from the pics, the suit is an ok fit. The tie, IMHO, is a fail and the square is from left field. It has no real correlation with the remainder of the fit, except to bring in an obvious new color. What would I suggest? Well, if I were weariing this suit and shirt combo, I would have focused on a darker tie, perhaps with a small pattern. Or, I would have gone into a different color equally as bold as the bold blue you selected, like perhaps a yellow tie. I would have gone with a white TV fold if going with a bold tie.

The shoes are thrifted Mercanti Fiorentini's; they're low quality but I like the design and they're comfortable, so they're doing the job for now. Found them in pretty much brand new condition. I've got plans for some AE's soon though.

OK.... that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like I need to forgo my clothing purchases for a bit to splurge on a new pc... or even a camera so I can join in start posting pics here.

I hear you on the Merc's. I have a couple pair and love them for now. Decent leather and they are doing their job well IMO. Some day when I can hoc some of granny's jewels maybe I'll step up to the higher end footwear myself. For now... I'm good.

Not sure I dig the orange pocket square with the other colors. Other than that, your look is quite nice but the jacket seems a tad bit large in the left-hand pic.

You've been using that excuse for too long, my friend. Get thee to an alterations tailor. That said, I don't think I've seen you post any pix in a while, and if I'm not mistaken, this is your first entry in a Friday Challenge. Welcome back, cp.

I know, I know! For some reason, though, I got it in my head that I would not, in principle, stoop to wearing a white shirt for a Gold Standard challenge. Then I stood on principle instead of on reason.

Looks like a very solid and classic fit to me. I like the harmonizing color/pattern combos and really enjoy the pop of complementary orange in your breast pocket.

Now see? This is just what the conservatives have been warning us about. Once you let men marry other men, pretty soon they're going to start dating their beers.

Even with that I know it's a little too short for many, but with beefy cuffs I prefer very little to no break as vox does.
Understood... It's all just a matter of opinion and personal style. I, being a bigger guy, typically like a little break. The just seem to sit better on me that showing a lot of shoe. I guess my personal style would be closer to that of Hold Fast and O/O. I do like the shorter fitted look on certain body types, typically smaller/slimmer guys. I feel it works better on them than it would on me. It could have been the picture as you said. My eyes went to the shortness of the trousers right away and then the coordination and overall fit second.

Ahh... I gotcha. Not my personal taste and I've never been one for established standards. Rock on.

Quick pic just before heading out for drinks & dinner... fear the velvet trousers & tassel loafer combination.
