I don't think those argyles would count as 'fun' socks to even the most conservative member

Thanks - it's not a bad fit, if not perfect - I decided it was good enough for RTW particularly at the silly price I paid for it in TKMaxx. The fabric is really nice, and I lacked a DB for occasional wear.

Looking good PG - nice simple clean lines and contrasts. Great tie.

Friday's suit was too loose and boxy (it's at the tailor's now, being adjusted - photos next week); yesterday's was by all accounts (including my own) too tight. Maybe today, the third try will be "just right" (certainly closer than the last two).

For your entertainment (or dissection - not that around here those two activities are mutually exclusive) . . .

Fit looks much better. If I'm being picky, shirt sleeves could be a tad longer but all in all it's pretty decent.

I like this - interesting, without going over the top. One of your best recent fits.

This.

Spoo - fantastic.

PhatGuido - the first pic (lighting) doesn't do the fit justice...if #2 is closer to the true colors - love it.[/SPOILER]ManofKent -
Thanks.

Nice. You disprove the ridiculous notion that odd navy pants can't be stylish.

A somewhat relaxed look but your style keeps it very crisp. I like that.

This really suits you; nice one.

A few people critiqued that tie, but I thought his tie was an excellent choice for the suit; the problem was that the shirt was - as you say - too close in scale to it. A microcheck shirt (with the same tie) would have worked better IMO and preferable to a different tie.

Nice outfit of course, but this caption made me chuckle because just the other day I was thinking about my prep school uniform in light of a couple of threads on the board (the trad challenge and the navy piped blazer thread). I think I had a mid-grey wool 3-patch, 3-2 roll, undarted jacket with black & white piping... anyway, totally off-topic, but your title brought it to mind again. I really must see if I can dig up an old photo...

I think that's fair comment (emphasis mine). Still some little niggles, but a generally happy medium.

Spoo - is it just me, or are some of your photos looking really washed-out/over-exposed recently? It's kind of tricky to really appreciate what colours you've chosen. I recognise I do not speak froma position of having quality photos myself, but yours seem different recently?

Another gloriously sunny but cold day:

For anyone who read the discussion a couple of pages or so back about actual jacket length vs the degree of closed front influencing the appearance of length, this is one of the the RLPLs I mentioned that is actually exactly the same length as the brown plaid Polo that was appreciated at the weekend, and yet seems a bit longer. Looking at it more, this also has an unnecessarily/unflatteringly wide jacket skirt below the level of the button (perhaps caused by a long front?) which also adds bulk, which again is what makes it seem longer.
In combination with the pants it does look a little bulky - but I think it's the trousers that are the bigger visual influence.

It seems that the suits in my closet mark where my figure has been - this one was a more recent purchase, and I haven't morphed into another shape very much since. I am put in mind of the cartoonist Nicole Hollander, whose character Sylvia states - "I'm always the perfect weight for my height, which varies."

As for your jacket today, I agree that the jacket skirt looks both unnecessarily and unflatteringly wide, making you look wider than in actuality that you are.

Ironically enough, the shirt, from Lewin, is a 16/35, whereas my normal shirt size from US sources is 16/34. I've always just bought the 16/35's from Lewin, and let shrinkage take of things - apparently this shirt (from the photo, at least) has shrunk more than I had thought, though I suspect it may simply be a trick of the camera.

I'm not feeling this, Spoo. All the elements are there, the fit is superb as always, the colors, the shoes are great. But there's something wrong with the tie... Can it be too close in texture to the SC? I don't know, but it's not working in my mind. Also, the pocket square selection (damn you, ) seems too studied and well-thought through.

Have you ever considered shaving your head, crusty? Seriously, I think it might be a good look for you, and if I were better with Photoshop I'd run an experiment on one of your photos. (Anyone, anyone?)

I have a very large cranium (possibly enclosing a large empty space, but, be that as it may), and I do not think that I have the bone structure to carry off the shaved-head look. It is also not a low-maintenance 'do - in order to make it look good, one must be almost as assiduous about having one head shaved as one is about shaving one's face. (I know others who have done this.)

I am keeping my tonsure as it stands now, thanks - even the #2 crop wouldn't work particularly for me - my hair, when that short, sticks out perpendicular to my skull, giving me the look of an ill-kept Chia pet - not a look to which I aspire, strangely enough .

Very good points indeed. Suggestion withdrawn.

Perhaps so, but I definitely wish I'd had one of these:
