Thanks - it's a double button - there's another button on the underside of the right lapel button, so if you want, you can use that & the lapels kiss each other but don't overlap...uh, hope that sounds right I have a '50s tuxedo that has the same. Edit - some cojones to wear that lilac check!

They were seriously reworked. Mucho padding had to be removed and they had to be narrowed. They were literally as wide and flat as football pads.
