Given your budget and preference for not-so-hungarian looking lasts, I'd recommend a Vass F oder PII, made up in their three eyelet derby fashion from dark brown boxcalf. For me, there is no better RTW derby (with relatively easy availablility being a matter). Oh, and a two- or three eyelet derby is very much a traditional form (for instance, the Zweilochschnürer is one of Materna's signature models). I, personally, like it quite a bit and think of it as the most elegant derby one could possibly buy.
