Here are my suggestions:

1. A very nice shoe shine kit if he's into shoes;
2. A high-end bottle of his favorite liquor;
3. A little weird, but what about some really high thread count sheets (man, I love these sheets I received as a gift and wouldn't have dropped the money on them myself);
4. If he's married, do something great for his wife so he looks like a stud in front of her (e.g., send her to a spa by herself or with a girlfiend). If he's a father, something great for his kids (e.g., tickets to a great show they'd like).

Beg, borrow, or steal something from Capsule or one of the showrooms for him. More realistically, he may buy himself anything, but he probably doesn't have access to everything, nor is he likely to know every brand. Get him something that isn't available in NYC. For a guy who is probably "streetwear lite", maybe a Stars&Perfect Tens belt from Toronto (~$150), or something from Sydney's eponymous store. Or an Entermodal wallet from Portland. Gimme a call if you decide on this and want a hand.

2. shoe shine kit
3. pocket knife
4. shaving kit
5. pro kitchen knife and cutting board
6. donation to save the whales from hippy pirates
