Really? You're going to cry because your coach left?

Im kind of torn:

On one hand I think its hilarious that all these people in Tennessee are mad that Lane Kiffin left their 7-6 program (and subsequent beat down in the chick-fil-a bowl, lolwut?) for one of the top 5 ELITE jobs in his profession...

But on the other hand I find it sad that people get this attached to sports and some dude who has been there less than a year.

Amirite?

yep...a little overboard....

I genuinely feel bad for UT fans, but like Pete Carroll said when he abruptly left USC (you didn't see any Trojans defacing property or causing a riot), "There's never a good time to leave".

Time for all parties to move on!

This has been a hilariously bad week for Southern Cal. NCAA's approaching with the noose, McKnight AND Carroll jump ship, and Lane Kiffin (who's never been anywhere long enough to show any coaching ability) is the new head coach? PAC-10's gonna be a lot more fun next year!

I think Kiffin is a great hiring myself:
-He is a local boy
-Worked with some of next years seniors when he was on staff
-Great recruiter, high profile
-Brings most of his staff (whom he swiped from pete when he left)
-Brings in his hall of fame defensive guru father and norm chow, who knows SC

No one saw pete carroll leave but what more did he have to prove? 9 years, 2 National Championship, bowl games, 3 heisman trophy winners, an unbelievalbe winning % .... for 35 million, yea, Id go too.

I just think SEC fans are retarded. Get a grip, peyton manning isnt there anymore - your fucking tennessee. Yea, id rather be there then california

Monte Kiffin is really the strongest thing Lane brings to the table. Jon Gruden owes all his success to that man. Despite being an alleged "offensive genius," the Buccaneers' offenses were just terrible, as were our personnel decisions. Kiffin kept that ship afloat for a long time by having a kickass defense.

Bingo bango. The coaching staff (assuming Norm Chow comes on board) will essentially be the Championship staff at USC circa 02-05 without Pete.

Yeah, Carroll did great. But its USC fer cryin' out loud. How hard is it to recruit top-level talent to that school?

Fuck, I could coach USC to a top 3 Pac-10 finish.

lest we forget that until petey showed up USC was a freakin joke. More people thought you meant south carolina then southern california. But now, its not hard with a tradition of excellence, great location and being the only football team within 3 hours. I just dont get the bitching. its STILL all over the news. Get a life, rednecks.

It's that mentality that got USC in trouble in the 80's and 90's.

They assumed the name would recruit itself, but that's really not the case.

You are right for the people that acted stupid. But I am a big UT fan and didn't burn mattresses, given I am not in undergrad anymore. I think it all stems from being one year. I liked Kiffin, somewhat, but am not deeply concerned or surprised about him leaving. I am more concerned about his father leaving and finding the right replacement to help salvage this recruiting class. I don't want them to be too hasty and get the wrong person and have this happen again in a year or two.

Well the rock gets painted all the time, so I know it was offensive and stupid, but it really wasn't hurting anything. If it would have stopped there it would have been at least understandable. The riot and burning shit was stupid.

That and all the cheating Carroll did. With Kiffin's questionable recruiting practice, I'm not sure it's the wisest hire.

I don't blame him for a second for leaving for a better job (who wouldn't do the same?), but calling UT recruits and telling them not to go to class is a really shitty thing to do.

I thought it was pretty funny that Gene Wojciechowski wrote an article bashing Kiffin on ESPN, since he's the same guy that's always defending Favre. Brett's waffling every single year doesn't seem to bother him.

Big-time college sports, along with the athletes and coaches involved, are so filthy it's almost impossible to watch or care. Having any kind of an "ethics" argument about any of these situations is meaningless.
