Soundgarden Reuniting

Afghan Whigs, Pavement, now Soundgarden

Cornell still has the pipes to sing the material. Guitarist Kim Thayil now bears a striking resemblance to Osama Bin Laden, unfortunately.

Soundgarden Reunion Is Official: "School Is Back in Session," Writes Chris Cornell

1/1/10 Rolling Stone Mag

Soundgarden fans woke up to incredible news this New Year's morning: the band, which split in 1997, is officially reuniting. Frontman Chris Cornell confirmed the reconciliation via Twitter, writing, "The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!" and linking to a new Website, Soundgarden World. As of now, the site only offers fans a place to provide their contact information for updates on the reunion.

Jeebus, it's been 12 years? really??? I remember buying Superunknown on cassette and taking it with me on road trips. I guess it has been that long.

This should be interesting!

YES! I've been hoping this would happen ever since they broke up. Never got a chance to see them live. Thanks for posting this!

Good band. Superunknown and Down On The Upside were college staples back in the days of plaid shirts, non-fake beater jeans and DM boots...all of which I wore just the other day. The time must be right.

Has Matt Cameron left Pearl Jam then?

I'm wondering if Cameron will play? I don't think it would be the same without him. I doubt he will leave PJ except to make a CD and maybe do some touring? Similar to what Chad Smith did with Chickenfoot.

"God willing we'll all be reunited for Spaceballs 2, the search for more money."

Sweet!

Though I wish bands that reunite would just forgo recording and go straight to touring. The odds of recapturing the quality of their earlier work are so low I often think I'd rather they not even try.

I thought the same thing.

Time flies. 12 years ago was just about the time grunge was out and Mtv tried to sell us on electronica.

Soundgarden is supposedly working their tour around Matt Cameron's Pearl Jam commitments - a summer tour in 2010.

last song I heard by cornell post (whatever the name of the band with former RATM), he had a sappy solo that sounded just awful, with a techno beat in the back. It is terrible.

I generally think the same, but the new Alice In Chains (yes, new...no Layne Staley) was surprisingly good.
