How many ties do you own? - Page 5

I own 6 ties; and I don't like 4 of them.

Should probably take a look at B&S. I can't believe some of your huuuuge ties/bowties collection!

I have two tie racks -- one holds 36 and the other holds 24, and they are both nearly full but not quite there (enough that I've got a nice gradient of colours going on and spanning pretty well the entire rainbow).

That said, it's for the sake of collecting -- or maybe some sort of anticipatory stocking-up for a job unlike what I have now -- as I currently wear a tie only two or three times a year. But that didn't stop me from adding seven-folds, grenadines, and some respectable brand names (Hermes, Stefano Ricci, Tom Ford, Brioni, Louis Vuitton, etc) to the mix.

I have 200 or so, but about half are not really appropriate for regular use (they're from museum exhibits -- so too flashy -- or hopelessly dated fashion items). I've been decluttering my life, but haven't yet taken the step of culling the tie herd; I have four 24-tie rack holders, so my aim is to reduce to 96 ties. Perhaps to 90 so I have 6 open spaces for new acquisitions.

I'm not counting the 20 or so bowties and 30 or so ascots; so I have almost enough neckwear for a different piece every work day for a year. (I wear ties regularly, mostly because I like to.)

Probably about a hundred now - I had a good clear-out last week and donated a lot to the thrift and gave a handful of good ones that weren't my style to a colleague who mentioned he was short of decent ties.

My challenge is that my everyday tastes run to the sort of Drakes / Marinella small pattern print, but I always get tempted into buying slightly unusual ties and then never wearing them. Much of what I cleared out were items that wouldn't sit well in a corporate environment, even if they amused me.

About 30, including a couple of bow-ties and cravats. I don't keep what I am not likely to wear again, so I regularly clear out. Many are vintage, mainly 50s and early 60s knitted jobs. Of contemporary designs, recently I have tended to favour Liberty of London, and texture (tweed, mixed fibres etc.). I sometimes feel like I should have a few more simple classic pieces.

too many, my wife is scared of me branching out into her closet space soon

Probably 30 or so. Every year or so I cull a few. I probably have about 20 in active rotation.

close to 200.
