Now... when I was in college, we used to play a LOT of beach volleyball. My friends would go into the sporting goods stores and pull the old "switcharoo" putting leather balls in the boxes for vinyl balls, and vice versa, then a different friend would go in the next day and buy a stack of $60 balls for $15 each. Now THAT was a little shady. I never participated in the theft, but I did play with the balls, so I guess I'll rot in hell anyway. Eventually, they caught on and started putting the UPC codes directly onto the balls.

This is the situation from which I strive to be disassociated.

The categorical imperative is littered with problems and is not worth using as a moral guide.

I admitted to a twinge of guilt, but a cold analysis of the details of the particular situation is best in deciding how to act in the future. I think you all have solidified my position that being a savvy shopper within the rules of the capitalist 'game' is the way to go.

When I was in college I knew a few kids who would travel to the US on break and take Canadian travelers' cheques with them... the fact they're in CAD wasn't very well marked and American merchants would accept them as USD... at the exchange rates back then, this provided quite a discount on major purchases.

I also still have a friend who always puts those little sampler bottles on bottles of hard liquor he buys. Rarely do the clerks notice or care. Once in a while they do.

Not sure the point of my relaying these stories.

Don't feel bad for taking advantage of someone else's screw up.

Understood, just throwing in my two cents.
