Cufflink and stud set

I noticed that some of the vintage cufflink and stud sets only come with three studs, whereas there are four button-holes on contemporary shirts. Does this render older stud sets obsolete? Tiffany and Co. cufflink and stud set

Three studs will be visible, they are jewellery and come in precious stones or pearls or whatever. The fourth stud goes into the collar and is hidden by the bow tie, so it is just a plain utility stud in plastic (bone in the old days).

I have a shirt that has four button holes that require studs to fasten, not including the collar. As well, I have noticed that newer cufflink and stud sets come with four studs.

You might have to look for a new shirt or a new stud-set. My evening shirt takes three studs, one collar stud and the bottom closure is a loop, pulled through a button hole and then buttoned into the waistband of the trousers, to prevent the shirt from riding up.
