When exactly would white shoes be acceptable? - Page 2

Well, the funny thing is... I'm Puerto Rican, and I sell cocaine... So maybe they'll help business? But nah I was just thinking of wearing them with like, a dress shirt (sleeves rolled up), maybe a tie, and a pair of dark(er) jeans. Certainly not something you'd see everyday, but I've kinda got that "f**k the rules, I look good" sort of style. And noooo it's definitely not to wear at school, I only wear sneakers there. Pumas (best shoe ever, I've got 3 different pairs), New Balance, slip on Vans, etc. And then occasionally Rainbows. But I'm going to the mall today and who knows what I'll come back with, haha.

+1. White bucks are an American classic.

I have seen some white suede shoes that were not classic white bucks that still were appealing. Brooks had some great-looking white suede leather-soled wingtips which would have looked great with a white or light tan suit at a summer lawn party or something similar. Unfortunately, I don't get invited to such events, so I passed on the shoes.

Robert John (a.k.a. Bobby Pedrick) was 12 when he sang that song. Do not take fashion advice from a 12 year old.

Chorse, Phatty G, and others have managed to pull off white bucks in the WAYW thread. I recommend a bit of research there. Chorse actually pulled them off with a suit (but no tie) if memory serves.

Generally, I think of white shoes as strictly causal - if you wouldn't be willing to stamp down a divot, play croquet, look for easter eggs, ride a vespa, chase down unruly mental patients, or go fishing in whatever else you are wearing, forget the white shoes.

If you want to be a guido, white loafers would be a great selection.

If you're 18 and in school, you can find better uses for money than white shoes. there will also be very few suitable conditions for you to wear them. get better "normal" clothes first.

if you want to look good, you'll get more bang for your buck appearance-wise by getting nicer shirts and pants, or a nice pea coat or something like that. but there usually isn't much of a point to dressing up in college. unless you do it in a very subtle way, you'll be "that weird guy."

in the 50's white bucks were the thing.
Now, only if you work in a hospital or live in the tropics

Don't be too judgmental. It is strictly casual, only for certain occasions. And I do live in SoCal. Pair it with a nice light-colored polo shirt and it looks quite good during the day, especially if you want a slightly more "daring" outfit. I should get a picture, but I'm lazy...

White suede balmoral wingtips are da bomb.

All white shoes are hard to pull off. White/black wingtips on the other hand = win win. Personally, if you're going to wear white shoes, you must at least put on a decent panama hat.

+1 Agree with you.

If you do not live in the deep south or in the tropics , do not wear white bucks.

They must be coming with some kind of sartorial health warning...Do not touch if not advanced in sartorial etiquette.
