What is the best rumor you have ever heard about yourself?

not sure if its the best, but it sure cracked me up when i heard it first...

When i was younger, around 14, I got send to a boarding school for a whole lot of reasons.. The thing was however, that i wasnt able to get back to my home town untill about 3 years later, so I pretty much disapppeared from the scene there.

When I finally got back I went out a couple of times with old friends and one night had this conversation at the bar:

friend: welll, nootje we have got to know...
me: ok..... know what? (took a big gulp of beer)
friend: well, we would like to know why you where sent away..
me: you allready know that, I told you...
friend: yeah, well.....a lot of people think it was something else....
me: spill it, this should be interesting...
friend: well, the rumour is that your father sent you away because you impregnated some girl and that her parents wanted a payoff, so you needed to disappear...
me: dude.....
friend: yeah, we figured it couldnt be true but wanted to hear what you thought about it..
me: ....................just get me a beer.....



I swear, small towns and gossip... Had I taken a year longer to get back I probably would have killed someone in the story

In junior high we had a "sweatpants day" (yes, really exciting). I had two pairs of gray sweats: one normal-sized pair for working out, and one that was too small. I thought it would be funny to cut off the smaller ones and wear them over the regular ones. I didn't really think of the fact that tight sweats would be rather revealing. One girl in my trig class saw me when I got up to sharpen my pencil and told everyone I had a hard-on. Now, if I was sporting wood, why would I get up to sharpen my pencil? Anyway, I tried to tell her it was just my huge manly bulge, but being 15, she didn't understand.

I guess that's about as good as it gets for me.

No one will ever have a better rumor spread about them than this. No one.

Over the years, the rumour mill has attributed many sexual depravities to me. Especially during the years when I was at university.

The problem is that, wrong though they were about the specifics, they were actually tamer than reality, so they don't really qualify for this thread.

Truth.

I have nothing quite so good.

Rumor 1: I made it a habit to bang someone at a client site, every trip. It would have possible, had I enough time to myself...but that was seldom the case. Myth busted.

Rumor 2: On a trip with a particularly salacious group, I got picked up at a bar by a local girl, out of the blue. I left with her and a few of her friends that night, got in around 2 a.m. Two nights later she and I go to dinner, and the team remembers her from the bar. She and I walked to dinner but got a ride back from one of her friends, much later. The team is outside the hotel when I get dropped off, two girls in the car - both presentable. Kisses from both, and the rumors start flying. I categorically deny nothing, and get a nickname.

Still, these pale in comparison to M@t's story, but at least the nickname has stuck since then.

Ok, not a best rumor but in the same vein of false stories. Back in the day as an undergrad I was hanging around with this girl. She had been dating my roommate but we actually got along a lot better and were partying on occasion (BTW, my GF was hanging out as well, so it was strictly Platonic). Now, this was back when I was pretty much off the chains. Lots of parties, punk rock and so on. So were sitting there at her house high as a kite and she says something along the lines of: "Norcal its been fun, I was a little nervous at first hanging around with you but you're a really mellow, really nice guy" Me: "really, why were you nervous?" Her: "well I'd just heard some stories about you, they seem really stupid now but I didn't know what to think" Me: "ORLY?" Her: "Ok, I had heard that this guy owed you some money and was not paying so you went to his dorm room, and beat the shit out of him, then made him watch while you raped his girlfriend." My jaw hit the fucking floor. What made the whole story so odd, besides it being an awful thing to have said about you, was that there was no kernel of truth whatsoever. There were no unpaid debts, no random fights with fellow students, no incidents with another mans girlfriend, nothing that could have served as the catalyst for the rumor. I made her promise to go set whom ever told her the story straight and she laughed it off saying it just made no sense now that she had gotten to know me. It did bother me a bit, but I figured it was a pretty small school and I had a lot of friends, if the story circulated too much people would stick up for me. Anyway, definitely the worst rumor I have ever heard about my self.

a long time ago, I was working in an african country training soldiers. it really wasn't that spectacular work, but it was interesting enough. for various reasons, my friends and family didn't know exactly where I was.

during one period I was out of town, there was a spectacular coup someplace, and it ended up with a really spectacular gunfight with some mercenaries stuck in a building. against all odds, some of these guys got away. it was very heavily televised at the time. some of my friends and family decided that I was there, and that spread around. of course, no body believed me when I said "I wasn't there, but I can't tell you exactly where I really was". and since I wasn't around, and nobody could get me on the phone during that time, it didn't help me out. there are still a bunch of people who are convinced that I was there.

I heard this about you. Several years ago, but yes, I heard it, too.

In HS rumor was the girls in our group made a list of the guys in our group in the order that they wanted to fuck them. I was number 4. There were 5 guys in the group. I never got a chance to see list.
