Headed to Chicago next weekend with my wife for a wedding on Saturday. Will have Friday evening for us to get in trouble by ourselves Late 30s professionals staying at the Intercontinental. Appreciate any suggestions you might have for dinner and drinks on a Friday night? Thanks.

Rick Bayless from Top Chef's restaurant, the Nordstrom Rack version. It's pretty good and reasonably priced. I took my gf ear and she loved it. I actually saw Bayless in the kitchen simmering some of that pork.

Enjoy your trip.

How much do you want to spend? What cuisines would you prefer? One of the best places to start is this Chicago-centric foodie message board: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewforum.php?f=14

I started a similar thread before I went to Chicago over Thanksgiving, and a number of members gave me some awesome leads. We had three great dinners while we were there, all of which were recommended by other SF members. It's definitely worth checking out.

The thread.

it is pretty much impossible to get into a bayless resteraunt easily on short notice, if you want to wait in line then it is worth it.

there are some great ethnic places in chicago, depending on what you don't have at home.

my wife spent a few days at the intercontinental last month, as a birthday present from me. its a nice place, great location, very small rooms. enjoy. there is a lot in within walking distance.

If you don't mind a really casual (almost divey) place with great cocktails, I'd recommend:

Kind of in the middle of nowhere, but a short taxi ride from your hotel.

For a dive bar with seriously incredible food, check out the Paramount Room. Great steak tartare.

Thanks guys for the recs. We'd definitely have more fun at a louder more casual / divey place. Less foodie and more drinkie.
