Sling & Stones: Hmm.

Thread Starter
Some of you over at the "other" SF have probably seen this thread but I thought I'd bring the discussion here. I like what the guy has in mind, and I like the fact that he's trying to do as quality a product as possible while also being socio-economically conscious and whatnot. Dunno' if it will work though. Here are the threads for anyone interested:

"socio-economically" that is the biggest bullshit term there is. he should just concentrate on making a quality product, better for everyone.

to be fair, he's not wrong trying to make what is essentially a piece of consumerist fashion benefit others. it's just that the whole harping on social responsibility thing makes me raise an eyebrow. but i certainly wish the company well!

i'll get to it after i'm done with my Orwell reading

Howies is kind of the same way. I'm not bothered so long as the product is nice.

Nevermind. Sorry, originally this was an Ayn Rand bashing post. I stand by it, but I was a little harsh. Tweedles, I don't think it's worth your time, but if Rand really interests you, go for it. Just stay critical.

well there's still awhile yet till i'm done with my few Orwell novels, and i'll decide then what next to look at. no worries. the thousand-pages thing does turn me off, though. i'm a believer that as a very general rule, good writers crystallise the best of their words into a profoundly simple (and simply profound) work. hemingway, forster, orwell--etc. very general and sweeping rule, like i said. many many exceptions. and on the topic of S&S, like Brian says, as long as the product is nice there shouldn't be too many complaints. the world needs more saviours anyway, and their product does look pretty decent.

Not only a commie, but can't even stand by his convictions

i'd call it moderation of conviction in the interest of a decent thread sans flames. convictions are capricious things, anyway, so standing by them fixedly usually is an interesting but silly gesture.

I want to hear the Ayn Rand bashing. Bender (in sewers): "Nothing here but garbage and Ayn Rand."

Trying to bait me now? It won't work, military man! I won't fall for your ambush! I'm humming kumbaya right now. After that, I will consult the I Ching.
