Who has love for black suits?

Hello, long time lurker, first time poster. I have used the search function and read many threads and posts regarding black suits. I know how the majority here feels about wearing them to anything besides a funeral, but i'm wondering who (besides me) embraces the black suit? I work a pretty blue collar job and only really need a suit for the occasional wedding, or god forbid funeral. The only suits I have owned for the last 5 years have been black. Maybe it's because i'm such a big Johhny Cash fan.

In the real world, most people won't go into anaphylactic shock upon someone donning a black suit in a setting outside of a funeral or formal event. With that said, I used to be a fan but only because I just thought it was the perfect great-for-everything suit to have. I was wrong, now I have a nice medium gray suit that I hold onto as my universal suit. I must confess that I am affected by SF...

Me. Keep in mind that black suit are much harder to pull off (IMHO) than navy or grey ones. But a well styled black moleskine or velvet suit is something to behold.

love black suits. if they are fitted correctly and you are slim and tall. other than that, it is not the best thing to go with, best to go with a dark grey solid. the black for some reason emphasizes shortness and fatness in people (on the contrary to what most believe)
i only use black as in pieces to an outfit. but not the whole outfit.

Most folks in my back-asswards part of the planet would think a black suit is entirely appropriate for all manner of occasion. Because they appear so everyman to me is precisely why I avoid them.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that I embrace the black suit, but I sometimes have problems understanding the extreme, seemingly irrational hatred for black suits on this forum. Life is short. People should chill sometime. At least it's black, not shocking pink.

I do own a black suit that's made of a nice textured cloth that I sometimes wear to slightly more formal evening receptions, where black tie is not required but where I don't want to seem as if I'm just wearing my "work clothes".

My two cents' worth.

Good topic. Surprising this hasn't been thoroughly discussed before.

There's a reason why it keeps cropping up. Quite a lot of people refuse to bow down to the tyranny of the Black Suit Haters.

There is a guy seen on the street here who is able to pull off pink, royal blue and blaze orange suits. If we ever saw him in something normal we'd throw stuff at him.

The aspect of this debate that always perplexes me is the way that the argument returns to convention and etiquette (as evidenced by the reference to acceptability of black suits at funerals). Really, these days effectively nobody in the real world (certainly in the UK or US, the only societies I know well) would take social offence at somebody wearing a black suit, for business or any formal-ish social occasion. They'd just clock it as a dark suit and think no further.

My reservation about them, though, is down to most of the ones I see worn at work being in a dull, texture-less worsted, and usually ill-fitting, by people who feel obliged to wear a suit and take no joy in it. And aesthetically I do think that generally other colours flatter more and are more complementary to other colours. But if a black suit is fitted well and has some richness to the cloth, then fine. Though still better at night than in daylight (personally, I don't think it's a good choice for a daytime wedding).

And with regard to funerals, are there still people who would not otherwise wear a black suit who choose to put one on for a funeral? Why? There's no expectation. Just wear a dark, plain-ish suit that you like.

I like black suits. . .I've got a solid black that I wear from time to time, at the office. I also like black pinstripe, grey, navy, etc.
