What's the appeal of the wings/horns x dayton service boots - Page 118

So after about a week of looking it looks like either

- buying the W&H pair for $500, but i'm really after the original daytons

- taking the risk of ordering through dayton. ideally i want these soon though as winter is starting here

or i am starting to lean towards a pair of wolverine 1000's, simply as they are so much easier/quicker to get my hands on a pair. so unless anyone on here has any strong recommendations against these i think i may just take the plunge

i bet you can just order straight from dayton

there isnt an anniversary sale going on (probably never going to happen again anyway because of the last fiasco) so i doubt they will be that busy or swamped and should be able to deal with you with no real issues. they actually might even have your boot in stock in their store/showroom for sale right away

email or call them and ask for an estimate on timing

Sure, I bet there won't be any problems with that lol8[1].gif
Did you miss the part where all of the people who made the boots were fired?

Anyhow.
Wolverine 1000 miles are a differently shaped boot, when it comes down to it...
I picked up a pair of 9 1/2 brown on B/S for 250.
Seem to remember a few others pairs floating around the forum, too.

Eh, I am going to Japan in a couple weeks so if it doesnt get done by then I am cancelling the order and going to get a pair of Motos boots.

When you look at other forums than SF, Dayton seems to work fine with their stock boots (which includes the service boots). I think Stephen just wants to fuck with me

lol no i didnt miss it but its been awhile since the sale and i had assumed EVERYONE got their boots by NOW

also assumed that people who were fired and or dont want to work there anymore have been gone for awhile and have been since replaced and they are "starting over" (only assumed this since dayton havent gone out of business yet and figured they would have gone under by now having fired everyone)

anyway all my assumptions are based on nothing other than news (lack thereof) from this thread lol

For poster interested in 1000 miles.
Dayton service boot next to 1000 mile.
Both are size 9.5. I typically wear a 10.5.
Daytons = overall larger (these fit with insoles), longer and flatter toe box, higher up the ankle.
1000 miles = stubbier, very small looking form factor, especially if you want to wear them with jeans.

meso isnt it more appropriate to compare size 9 dayton vs 9.5 1K mile after everything i read about the sizing. thinking of getting the 1K but hate the speed hooks.

Yes, I think so.
the dayton service boots run like a size and a half large.
1000 miles run 1/2 to 1 full size large.
The 9.5 daytons as you can see have a much larger form factor...
and I have to use inserts on them (which actually works out okay because they are kinda uncomfortable).

thks heaps for your help Meso & everyone else. Would prefer the Dayton's but am a bit wary, & with postage costs of $90-$120 as quoted by Dayton I'll be able to get a pair of the wolverine's for around half of what the daytons will end up costing

Could someone that owns the dayton or dayton/W&H service boots in 11 or 11.5 post or PM me measurements of the outsole length?  I was supposed to receive 11.5 but they're marked 11, trying to figure out what I have.  Thanks a lot.

BTW, selling two pair of charcoal nubucks: a new pair of 10.5 and this pair of 11/11.5 worn a couple of times.  Looking to fund a pair of the distressed browns.  Brown just works so much better in my wardrobe.

These fit big. The measurements for both are:
10.5:  Length:  12 7/8  Width:  4 3/8
11/11.5:  Length:  13 3/8 Width:  4 1/2
