What's the appeal of the wings/horns x dayton service boots - Page 86

I got a hold of Stephen. Sent boots back last Friday and said my shipping will be refunded to me. Hopefully I won't have a hard time get a hold of him when my boots arrive in Vancouver

I just got an email response - apparently their ISP has been out for 3 weeks.

What I meant was, what was his specific problem... quality issue? Boots not received? Wrong size? I live near Dayton and can maybe help out. See?

No boots, no shipping info, no nothin.

I think most people just want a status update, are they shipping?, are they still making boots?

I managed to get in contact with them at this number: 604.566.9848, and they were quite helpful. Looks like they are back from their 6 week hiatus.

Great, I'll try them tomorrow. One last attempt before the chargeback. Thank god for Visa.

Wow, I've been gone for the past month, and was shocked at how this thread blew up. What a clusterfuck, guess I'm happy I actually got my boots, even if the quality is shit.

opinions on this alternative to the dayton boot by chippewa/jcrew? i know the rubber sole/heel isnt great but the silhouette is the closest i could find to the dayton boot at a decent price ($200). They are less bulky looking than RW and Wolverines IMO. I would also change the laces.

Got my boots on Friday without warning (no email, no call). I have not spoken to them since my initial order. Anyway once I opened the box I was rather underwhelmed with the quality control. One of the eyelets had some of the paint chipped off so I have a nice silver shine with the rest of the brown eyelets. Also, I have this soft mushy layer on the top of the heel layer leather where the boot attaches to the heel. Feels almost paper mache like and is extremely soft. I am afraid to mess with it else that layer would probably just peel off. Is this stuff suppose to be there? Looking at the pics of other people's boots, they look like the rest of the heel stack but mine looks like a brown foamy layer which i can actually press down. Is this glue or some form of coverup because it is more noticeable in an area where there appeared to be a deep scuff. Also the spacing between the heel and boot is a little off on the boot as there is more heel material in the inner part on one boot and more on the outer part in the other. This I guess is where the "handmade" uniqueness comes to play. Anyway, not very satisfied with the boots but I guess since I waited this long I am debating whether to return these or not. Any suggestions on painting the eyelet? Will try to post pics once I get the chance but that soft foamy substance on the top layer of the heels and the chipped eyelet is bugging me especially since they charged my card eons ago and just delivered what appears to be a shoddily made product now....I never bitched and moaned to them at all and would have waited another month to get a product that I felt lived up to the hype of the name.....

I think the squishy, foamy stuff is probably the glue they used to attach the partially plastic heels to the sole.
