I get the 4 month waiting period for making the number of boots that were ordered (they should've just sent a blind cc email to all the people who placed orders saying this from the beginning instead of overpromising and underdelivering). But 4 months with 5 straight weeks of no contact? Just go for the chargeback. The way they're running things, there's probably a 50/50 chance you'd still get your boots somehow anyway. They may be frankenboots, but never look a free boot in the poorly shodded heel I always say.
Seriously, I don't even think I could enjoy them by now and it's not because of the wait time; it's the lack of concern on their part that would make me rage out with every step I took in them. I know the argument has been done ad infinitum with them being a small company + SF being a bunch of prancing pixies, but those pixies, however much you may hate them, are still your clients and need to be informed (truthfully) of when they could expect their boots; which should still be made with the same pride you take in making all your boots. You don't keep saying they're shipping, they're shipping, deliver an inconsistent product, and then leave what could be anywhere from one quarter to one third of your order incompleted because you have to take a 5+ week vacation.
That's crazy. That's insane. A company of that size cannot afford to have the "we don't give a damn" attitude that a large, faceless corporation could have.
Hell, I didn't even order any boots and I'm pissed off at them. Just tell the truth Dayton. Telling the truth, being honest about production times, would have saved everybody. Dayton would have a new client base it wouldn't have had otherwise and you guys would have had a pair of boots that wasn't rushed out the door.
