Since when did the genre 'indie' mean anything? Built to Spill--the "elder statesman of indie"-- has been on Warner Bros. for most of their duration.

Not my point. What defines indie? It's just a label to lump similar artists under--and increasingly a market term.

That said, I was just posting my last.fm top whatever. I don't think New Order or Gang of Four are indie, but fill the same musical niche indie does/used to.
