Men and soy?

I've heard a number of times that men are supposed to avoid large quantities of soy products because of the estrogen contained in them. Does anyone know if there's any scientific basis for that? Also, what about soy sauce, or other food products containing soy lecithin (many, many of them)?

After years of documenting its affects on me, I and my wife concluded that it definitely has a negative affect on my ability to... One meal with it or tofu and it's practically dead for 3 days. After that, no problems at all. This might indicate that I have too much estrogen in my system already and this tips the scale. Other men might not have this issue.

I've also read where medical experts claim that such a claim is unsubstatiated.

In earlier times, chinese women used it to curtail there philandering husbands' ability to perform.

Old and very recent conflicting info abounds on the affects of its phyto-estrogenic properties as a cause or cure for breast cancer

I stopped eating it after I read that the protein contained in soy is largely under utilized by our digestive tract. I wasn't attached to eating it, found it palatable but ignorable, so removed it from my diet. I don't have room for filler. The possible avoidance of estrogen like substances is just a bonus.

So is the above post about soy lecithin being of a different ilk, and not having this effect, true?

Uh, small amounts of the above cause problems, in that they make me hurl. Can't stand either. However, I cant find a single powdered protein that is flavored but has no lecithin (but all whey protein, no soy protein), and also almost everything with chocolate seems to have it.

There are many foods with moderate/high levels of lignans or phytoestrogens. Soy is just commonly known to be but flax and sesame seeds are very high in lignan content, along with many fruits/vegetables and other foods. I've recently read that usually some intake of phytoestrogens doesn't have any significant effect on testosterone levels and they can be beneficial to health.

Seriously, just look at the wikipedia article on soy. It has links to all the conflicting scientific reports you could possibly want.

Very good to know, but that still doesn't solve the protein problem. I usually have a shake or two a day and can't seem to find more of the product I was using before (EAS regular chocolate protein powder) as the version I see now does list soy lecithin as an ingredient.
