I wouldn't get married.

Don't. It isn't worth it. If you need that, get a divorce and go play the field.

+1. I agree! Not a NY Yankee fan at all, but I would do it Derek Jeter style: Single/Mingle/his pockets jingle!

Wow, Styleforum is so morally upstanding! The statistics, on the other hand, tell a different story:

- About 60 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have an affair at some point in some marriage "Monogamy Myth", Therapist Peggy Vaugn
- Recent studies reveal that 45-55% of married women and 50-60% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some time or another during their relationship (Atwood & Schwartz, 2002 - Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy)
- About 24 percent of men and 14 percent of women have had sex outside their marriages, according to a Dec. 21, 1998 report in USA Today on a national study by the University of California, San Francisco.

I tend to believe the higher estimates, as even in a confidential poll, plenty of folks would be unwilling to "admit to themselves" that they've done it. Moreover, paranoia would keep them from admitting anything, even in a "confidential" setting.

Deal with it, the numbers don't lie.

I don't have a wife, but I probably would cheat on her if the chick was really hot.

I actually have a phobia of infidelity and divorce, so no - it freaks me out just to think about it. I also think about how I'd beat my dad to a pulp if he ever cheated on my mom, so I can't, with any consistency of values, cheat on my wife. Lastly, she's been so patient with me and gave up a very nice life in Chicago to be with me - it would be such a betrayal for me to do something like that.

I like your little exposé but how does this statement reconcile with the higher stats you are posting here, coming from polls themselves, I assume - and likely less confidential than this one ?

For one, I assume that people who have cheated or would cheat would be hesitant to bother answering this poll, and so there would be a self-selection bias. Also, I think the majority of SF posters are hypocritical bastards.

I would not.

I would if she was a five star bitch. Alas, I am far from married per Edmorel and Gnatty88's suggestions.

Sorry but this does not reconcile the statement or bridge the polls. Self-selection or hypocrisy are not exclusive to SF.
