How to Enjoy Brandy

So I've got this huge bottle of VSOP Christian Brother's Brandy sitting around and I have no means of enjoying it except for neat. In a coffee mug. Because I'm a bum.

Although I am a bum willing to spend some $$ to liven up this key ingredient.

Suggestions on the best mix drinks one could make with what I've got? Doesn't even have to be super classy, just whatever you've liked in the past or found to be great, period.

Any Cointreau laying around? Sidecars are yummy.

This is how I make mine, but you can fiddle of course:

1 and 3/4 oz Brandy
3/4 oz Cointreau
3/4 oz lemon juice

Shake it all up with ice and drain it into your coffee mug. I usually make a double since it goes down a bit too easily.

I hear you can use Grand Marnier or triple sec instead of Cointreau. Never tried those though.

Otherwise buy yourself some eggnog! That's the other purpose my brandy serves for me.

A Mexican friend introduced me to Kahlua and Brandy. About 50/50. The brandy cuts the thick sweetness of the Kahlua in a very nice way.

One glass- 50% Brandy and 50% Port. Try once and never look back! (Btw you'll enjoy that much anything retrospective will be difficult)

This sounds so outlandish, easy, yet good. Oh, do I use the non-alcoholic or regular eggnog?

Regular eggnog(Bordens) in a can. Load blender with a lots of ice/brandy/egg nog. That is how traditional eggnog is made...with brandy.

Something about using eggnog from a can AND traditional strikes me as pretty, well, lopsided anyway. A traditional eggnog is about as far from anything you put in a blender with ice as possible. Sounds pretty awful actually, as the ice would melt and ruin the mouthfeel of the eggnog. OP, run a search on SF for the word 'Alabazam' -- it's a good brandy-based drink. ~ H

Agreed. If it doesn't come from a waxed cardboard carton, it's just not trad. That, and I remember rum as being the traditional mixer for nog.

You should smoke a cigar at the same time. It greatly enhances the taste of the grape (if i am describing it correctly) in the brandy.

+1 to the Alabazam, Hunts had suggested this to me before and it's helped me to consume lots of Brandy.

If you're going to spend money, might as well buy a snifter, they're not that expensive. http://www.bevmo.com/Shop/ProductDet...0674&Ns=Name|0 $5
