I can't say how many times i've seen this movie. Was just watching it with my projector on my huge screen and for the first time ever I noticed that it wasn't written/directed by Lucas. It was truly a wtf moment for me, but then it all made sense. How could it have been?

not surprised at all.

Lucas actually tried to get David Lynch to direct TESB. It would have ended up a far different picture.

You found the reason that it is by a wide margin the best Star Wars movie.

I knew this, but I don't know why. Anyone know the reason for this?

Also my favorite of the three. But Lucas was obviously still heavily involved.

That was Return of The Jedi.

I think it was either: lucas was busy, backers were like 'your script sucks dick and you're a fucking little faggot bitch so maybe you should back off and let real men do a good job instead of sucking dick 24/7 like you clearly want to do bitch'

george lucas would have loved to take over all aspects of making the films both production and directing.

however, from his experience with A New Hope, he wanted someone to take over direction as that would make things more efficient in making the film within the time constraints.

Return of the Jedi, he also picked a director, but the director was not as competent in working with actors and having to account for computer graphics to be put in later so basically George lucas had to hand hold him.

Lucas made screenplay for all 3
