BBM- wtf is this s**t

Thread Starter
So this girl I know keeps bugging me if I got a BlackBerry yet, I always say that I am quite content with my iPhone. She claims it is "amazing" and that it is nothing like texting or aim, or YIM, or MSN, or GoogleIM, or Skype, or...you get it. What exactly is it and what makes it anything other than a stupid phrase ("what's your pin"), upper middle class kids can say to eachother.

BBMessenger sucked a bag of dicks. I had a BB Pearl a couple years ago, I used MSN messenger on it a shit ton more. The PIN idea is like some sort of exclusivist ICQ or something.

Tell her to F off.....unless you have not banged her yet!

I have my cell, 2 home phones, aim, 2 emails, facebook and text messaging.

I had one friend ask me for my black berry messenger. Last thing I need is another way for people to contact me.

BBM is essentially a text messaging service that utilizes the RIMM network. Some advantages is that you can have group chats (which may sound very teenagerish, but has a ncie business advantage to it) , and you can see if the person received your text as well as if they read it. Big deal, I love my iPhone as well and was a die hard BB user for 5 years.

+1. From a marketing standpoint, I feel BBMessenger was the 'killer app' that really allowed Blackberry to break into the youth market that had been ruled by the iPhone, dumbphones and qwerty-phones. Even just a few years ago, most would've never thought that the high school and college demographic would even consider a Blackberry. But now, it's common to see facebook and twitter messages like "Add me! BBM: 2NX3NJ2." With that one post, people immediately knew you were part of the in-group of blackberry owners. Like the white earbuds when the iPod was first released. My friend is in the market for a new phone, and posted a simple query on FB: Iphone or Blackberry. and I was stunned at the overwhelming response for the Blackberry. I am pretty up to date with technology, but this revelation really blind-sided me. However, after reading some of the responses, it was quite evident; "CORPORATE CANADA CHOOSES BLACKBERRY, IPHONES ARE FOR KIDS and STUDENTS" "but its so professional looking." Quite interesting, I find.

I like BBM because it feels faster than texting and it's free, and I only have 250 outgoing texts, which somehow I manage to use most of.

Agreed. If each BBM counted as a text, I would probably need a 10,000+/month or unlimited plan.

Personally, BBM is RIM's competitive advantage and what has kept me from using another manufacturer's phone.

It's also a godsend when it comes to hooking up with girls.

If you have unlimited text-messages with an iPhone it's the same thing because iPhone will thread your messages together exactly like BBM.

I myself went with a Bold over an iPhone.

bbm is great for canadians that dont want to get raped on unlimited texting plans

The BBM is great for people who travel int'l a lot too. Texting while you're abroad is ridiculously expensive.

Wait, my Blackberry has a PIN? How do I find out what it is?

The new bbm app lets you read their text without actually opening it, which is nice. Before this when I didn't feel like chatting I just never opened their message so they didn't see I had read it and was just ignoring them.
