Options 1 and 3 involve staring at a monitor all day and option 2 means crawling around under desks and lugging stuff around offices. You can haev a go at learning programming yourself to see if you like it. You either have a head for it or u dont. IT...its not glamorous and you PROBABLY wont get rich but it does pay the bills. Um, that really depends on where you are in your career, and doesn't anyone "Do IT with some sort of business?" If you are helpdesk, which is where many people START their careers, than ya, it's a crappy job all around. Most entry-level jobs in any field suck. You will have to run cables and fuck around with people's dusty computers and nasty keyboards. But, if you are smart, the point is to move up from that as quickly as possible, partly through hard work and partly through additional education. I haven't met many higher-level networking or systems guys that spend their days crawling around under desks and carrying stuff around offices. It will depend upon the company, but generally speaking, a company isn't going to pay someone 80k+ a year to haul gear. The helpdesk guys being paid 25k/yr do that stuff. You might have to put a new piece of gear in the rack once in a while, but most of the menial stuff is done by others.
