Action Adventure Heroes

Sitting here watching True Lies on AMC and it got me to thinking, who are the Action Adventure Heroes of the new generation.

Despite the fact that their films are still popular, guys like Schwarzenegger, Stallone and Bruce Willis are past their prime but it doesn't seem like any new stars have yet arisen to take their place.

I suppose a case could be made for Christian Bale (Batman and Terminator Salvation) or Matt Damon (Jason Bourne), but considering both have done serious acting as well I hesitate to categorize them as Action Heroes.

Any predictions or thoughts?

no one came after wesley and if we follow the old hollywood formula imo that other guy in terminator salvation, sam worthington(?), liev schrieber and maybe ryan reynolds are the next action heroes to come out. otherwise, we're gonna be in eternal purgatory with movies like this

The old action hero doesn't exist any more, they have been replaced with people like those mentioned who do more than just action.
Not disputing the awesomeness of the old arnie/stallone films but I think tastes have changed slightly. I don't think people could make films exactly like them at the moment as tastes have changed and the current equivalent films are not necessarily better, but are different. There is no need for pure action heroes like them except, as acidboy points out, in the straight to dvd market.

Jason Stratham and Vin Diesel are pretty much doing only action type movies. You can also make a case for Jet Li and Jacky Chan, depending how you like your action movies.

They won't be replaced, and frankly, I don't think there's anyone out there that could fill their shoes, so it would be dumb to try. I've watched a ton of Stallone and Arnold movies in the last couple of weeks and I forgot just how awesome they were. They were at their prime during the Reagan era though, and things are a lot different now.

Besides Statham and Diesel you could make an arguement for Dwayne Johnson (the rock).

Vin Diesel and Jason Statham are good suggestions. I had forgotten about them.

Seems like Dwayne Johnson is trying to get away from the action hero stereotype and become more of a comedic actor. I wouldn't be suprised to see him in some romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock next or something.

Even though he's in his 50's, this new film with Denzel Washington, "The Book of Eli" looks like it might be a decent action flick - kind of a Road Warrior for the 21st Century?

I also forgot about Wesley Snipes. The Blade series was pretty cool. If he works again after his income tax evasion stuff he might be on track to be in some more films like that.

And thanks Acidic for the link to that film - a movie with both Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren looks awesomely bad enough that I had to add it to my Netflix queue.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Junior, Jingle all the way
All non action movies, most of which were awful.

The Rock has the potential to be a decent action star, I thought the Rundown was fairly entertaining and was in the vein of classic action movies.

action movies dont have the pow they used to have. They just cant remake 80s and 90s action movies to the same standard. Cameron knocked it out of the park with T2. Its been all downhill since die hard with avengence.

I agree. . .Jason Stratham is probably the best of the genre right now.
