I'm finishing my dissertation, currently 6 months shy of my doctorate. I have 2 MS degrees as well. Doing intensive family therapy right now with only some 1:1 outpatient.

Finance/consulting is my bane. I've always been interested in psychology, so may as well learn more about it.

Not too interested in clinical psych in the long run. It's the experimentation that really interests me. Particularly social psych.

Endocrinology isn't psychology.

Maybe you just want to work with obese women.

On the contrary. Endocrinology is more closely tied to psychology than most give it credit for. Neurotransmitter levels are the major force behind certain emotional responses. Sure, endocrinology is not psychology, bluntly speaking. But they both revolve around the way the mind works, which is what is most interesting to me.

Anyone who has done coke and had a dopamine spike knows what I'm talking about.

What is it about finance specifically that you don't like it? Serious question.

Basically that finance has absolutely no meaning to me. All I do in finance or consulting is increase shareholder wealth. I don't give a crap about shareholder wealth. If you take the view, as many of my friends do, that what you do to make money should not be confused with pleasure and the fun part of your life, then this is not an issue at all. I take the opposite view, and would like to do something with my work that would interest me regardless of remuneration.

By this definition, almost all jobs are meaningless to me. Most of all, however, anything to do with finance and law. Which is unfortunate for my wallet, but that's how I am. If I were to settle for a meaningless job, I would probably stick in my field because I would make a shitload of money. And I obviously feel tons of social pressure to make money. If I ever want kids I will need money to provide for their education. So I can't take a job that makes me less than a certain threshold. But I am willing to "settle" for a job that makes me $100-$150K in the long run as long as I truly enjoy it.

QFT, I spent a year in grad school for behavioral neuroscience. The focus of our lab was psychoneuroimmunology (interaction of the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems). Fascinating shit but I hated the lab work. I'm actually trying to do the opposite of you and apply my psychology background to finance.

In regards to your original question, even though you're not as interested in clinical psych if there's something that you're really good at and enjoy you can utilize that very profitably. For example one of my siblings was an excellent rider and after getting her doctorate started an "equine facilitated mental health practice". Another friend loves art and after getting her masters works in "Art Therapy" (which I assume means she interprets pictures that disturbed kids draw).
