Pullups, pushups, crunches, etc - Page 7

Hmm...maybe I should reconsider my knee-jerk reaction against kipping. Perhaps it would be a good idea to do some kipping when I can't do any more reps from a dead hang...as a finisher.

Yeah there's no problem as long as you realize they aren't a true pullup by the traditional definition. The first 20 or so reps you see in the link I posted above are what I consider "true pullups."

I'm sure kipping has its place, but I also think it's what led to some of my back problems, so I'm trying to eliminate it.

Ouch, screw that then. I was considering trying some kippers after I exhausted myself with the dead hangs....kinda like how people will do a bunch of pushups after bench pressing.

But my reason, aside from big arms and lats, for doing pullups is to strengthen my back, not fuck it up.

I've been kipping for 3 years and I've never had a back problem as a result

Now that I think of it, may be dangerous for me. I have my pullup bar mounted kinda low, and I have to bend my knees while doing pullups to keep my feet from hitting the floor. Best keep it slow until I can find my power drill to remount that thing higher.

How the fuck do you hurt your back doing kips? That's like saying you pulled your hamstring doing bench press.

No idea, but that's my theory. It may or may not have contributed to my back problems.
