Pullups, pushups, crunches, etc

How much is too much? When does it get pointless? I've heard of people doing 500 a day, but I can't imagine it helping once you go too far.

You can put in a huge amount of volume on these exercises, and they benefit from 'greasing the groove' - splitting up a lot of sets through the day. I increased my chin-up number by having a bar in my home and just doing reps to failure every time I walked past it, often doing more than 50 in a day.

Just listen to your body and start conservatively. If you're too sore to move the next day, that's not effective training.

That's what I've been doing. I work out at school and that's been closed for over a week. I've curtailed the situation a bit by doing a lot of push-ups, body squats, and chin-ups. I'll break each exercise into sets without a rigid time limit to accomplish everything. I've found that even on a more relaxed pace, the whole process gets a little easier each time.

But definitely listen to your body. It'll be tough to overtax yourself doing these exercises, but if you're feeling run down, take a day off.

500 in one succession is way different from spreading it out among the day. I dunno but 500 seems a little excessive. + theres tons more to do out there, not just the basic pushup, pullup, and crunchies.

I like pushups. I do standard, military, wide, decline, pike, and diamond. I do a set of each and then repeat. So if I do 30 each thats 360.

I think it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. 500 a day seems way too much. Your body doesn't get a chance to recover.

Do you consider that cardio or resistance training?

I do an average of 600-700 various pushups a day. The key is to diversify them to address different muscle groups...Too much? Your body will tell you, but start slow. BTW, I am 44 y.o. and 165lbs @ 5'11"

nice nice. i start off with 3x20 wide-grip, followed by 3x20 standard and 3x15 diamond (my triceps are weak as hell)

for the 3x20 wide-grip and 3x20 standard, i place my feet two steps high on a staircase to add resistance

what's pike and military?

military are like standard but with a closer grip. Pinch your elbos in tight, it works the tris. Pike is like you make an upside down V, works the shoulders.

I suck at diamonds too.

^^ I also have an iron gym, use it every time I enter my room. Usually 6-7 sets of 15. I do 100 pushups and situps a day.
