Is this Sony BRAVIA a good TV/deal? - Page 3

I'm quite happy w/ my upgrade. I was worried that the higher (720) resolution would stretch out my VHS tapes and make them look worse than before, but my fear was unfounded, everything looks great.

The higher is better. If you have an old "analog" non-hd tv you will love the upgrade. It really makes a huge difference.
No offense, but you have no clue what you're talking about. The room my projector is in is only 12ft deep, so it's not a large room. I project an image just over 100" diagonal from 10ft. From my viewing distance of 10ft ~90" is supposed to be optimal size as per the THX recommendation, so i'm actually over it, but that's my preference. The edges of the screen are in peripheral vision but I find this provides greater immersion. I've probably watched 50 movies on it so far and the only one where I zoomed (to around 90") to make the screen a bit smaller was the opening scene of QoS where the camera was really shaky and jumping all over the place. 32" is positively tiny, even for a small room. It won't come anywhere close to filling your field of vision. For a 6ft viewing distance like the OP, the THX recommendation is 46". And with that screen size from that distance, he should be getting a 1080P set, not a 720P set.

Yeps, I own a 32" Sony Wega tv. I have been using this TV brand for about 8 years now,as per my experience and my family's, we are very satisfied with its features and capabilities. I fell in love with its elegant-looking silver finish. The color did not put emphasis on its size ...

Now, I got a 32" Sony Bravia LCD/TV from my husband, given as a gift to me on our 19 years of wedding anniversary last Nov 2009. This is really a great LCD television to have. It has been proven better than plasmas for burn in over a long period of time. You will be able to tell that you've purchased a great television from the moment you get ...

Our 8 year old Sony Wega is still alive and working fine. Just like a brand new TV

I currently own this Sony Vega (It's Vega BTW, the extra 'V' is just a shadow of the first V), it's a 2004 720P 3 LCD rear projection TV:

I bought it new in 04'. When it works it's a fantastic TV, even the motion blur is minimal for being a 60hz 6 year-old TV. However, there were known problems with this TV which included the light-engine block (which contained the 3 LCDs and the fan housing) from overheating and causing streaks of color across a corner of the screen. My TV suffered this problem a little over a year ago; luckily the TV was under an extended 4-year warranty from Best Buy. Thus, BB replaced the entire system ($1200 replacement part / service) for free. Then, about July of this year the backlight (which is user replaceable) broke and cost me about $160 to replace.

As I stated in the 3D TV thread, I was browsing Sony's new offerings at my local Sony Style store and the sales person mentioned some of the problems they had with the newer flat-panel LCD's. Whilst I think Sony's are great WHEN they work, I think the speed in which new TV technology is introduced leads me to advice that regardless which brand of TV you purchase, you should get the most comprehensive extended warranty you can get. And see if they can have it kick in after the 1 year manufacturers warranty has elapsed.
