Is this Sony BRAVIA a good TV/deal?

I'm thinking about upgrading my old TV to this, but I don't have the time or patience to wade through AV forums. (Yeah, I did say upgrade, so it shows you how much I cared about TVs previously.)

Give me your expert, off the top of your head opinion, please.

Doesn't appear to be high definition and its only 32 inches.

I would consider 40-42 inches and HD at a minimum nowadays for a new TV.

The space is small where the TV is going, so I think anything larger than a 37" would be overkill. This TV attracts me because it's not too big both in terms of size and of price. Besides, my gf and I rarely watch TV, and we've been satisfied with a non-HD 21" TV for some time now. Yeah, you read it right. I've been watching a TV built during the Ice Age. I just want to make sure this is a half-way decent HDTV for those rare occasions when I have time to catch a HD game on TV.

Technically it is High Definition (1366x768 resolution aka 720p) just not 1080p (1920x1080). The TV will scale any signal it receives, including 1080p to its native resolution. The price seems very good though I have no opinion on picture quality. I would also look at the comparably priced Panasonic 32" LCD models. They would be my first choice given your criteria. I have not been impressed with lower end Sony LCDs.

Pull the trigger. You can't tell the difference between 720p, and 1080p on anything under 55 inches. If that TV was 42 inch... it be mine!

Probably true. I have had good luck with the two decades of Sony TVs we have bought. I don't have any first hand experience with the Bravia line but they get good reviews.

My daughter just bought a Samsung LCD. The picture is amazing. The size is right within your specs. I think they got it at Best Buy.

The picture technology has really improved in just the last 1-2 years. I would go for recent technology and get the enjoyment of the amazing color and sharp detail. You will be glad you did when the Olympics are on. It might cost you double of the one you show but it is worth it. After all, you will have it for what 10+ years? Maybe longer?

^ I own a Samsung HDTV and like it very much. That being said, considering the Bravia can be had for $379 (until the end of today IIRC) - 8% cashback and may be a $50 rebate if you purchase additional warranty, I might go with the Sony here.

Samsung and Sony are about neck to neck in this market, quality difference, if any, would be even harder to tell for non high end TVs. Getting calibration right post-purchase is probably more important.

Agreed with the poster who said 720p and 1080p are virtually identical for smaller screen sizes.

I picked up that exact tv a couple of weeks ago - so far I've been very happy with it. In my relatively small apartment, I'm very satisfied with the 32".
