I don't have any plans to buy within the next few years because i want to move out of the country in a couple years and I don't want the tax man up my ass. But yes, it will always be a consideration for me whether buying or renting (my other big consideration is gas). It's not as difficult to accommodate a projector as you might think though, as long as you are willing to keep one wall empty (this is where WAF comes in for those that have them). Most home theater projectors use a short throw lens, so even if you don't have a big room, you can still project a big image. They also have lens shift, so you don't have to place your projector perfectly center with your screen (either horizontally or vertically). You can ceiling mount it, wall mount it, shelf mount it, or have a platform drop down from the ceiling (if you own your place). You don't even have to put a screen up, but if you do, you could use a cheap pull-down or more expensive motorized screen, hidden behind a valence. And if you use a drop-down of any type, you can have a wall-mounted plasma/lcd for daytime viewing in the same place. On the audio side, I favor concrete buildings or solidly built older buildings. I watch mainly at night and I use the system at a volume level that provides an impact. I don't want to deal with complaints. I'll also always prefer an apartment designed in such a way that I can position speakers away from the walls and corners, and where I can put my seating more in the middle of the room rather than right against the wall, so that my speakers will be at the correct angles for a proper surround sound experience.

Good points, I suppose thinking about it all the people I know with projectors are fellow nerds.

Second the "all you need is a blank wall" statement - I'm renting and just fire it at the wall, like you I was planning to buy a screen and once I saw it on the wall I decided I could live with it It's far easier to move around than a TV of any significant size.

One thing I am glad about is cheaping out and sticking with 720p - the majority of what I watch is streamed, downloaded or Netflixed, so 1080 would've been a waste of $1000+ for me.

I did a lot of research before I bought one. Setting up a projector definitely seems more complicated to someone that doesn't know any better. The other big reason is distribution. You really don't see projectors in big box stores. If they were there, and properly setup in a relatively dark room, i'm convinced they would sell. People think you need a dedicated room for them and I really don't think that's the case. What you do need is a big blank wall though, and WAF is obviously a factor there for many people. :P

No, sorrry but only hardcore geeks buy projectors. Normal people who already have a perfectly good 42"+ TV won't buy a separate (not to mention expensive) piece of electronics just to watch DVDs. There is a reason they don't sell these at Best Buy. The market is very niche. I don't know anyone (well besides you of course) that has a projector at home.

Nice looking picture nonetheless - enjoy!

Yes. There has always been over the past 6 or so years an affordable work projector (like those used for PPTs) that does a decent if not stellar job on HT projection.

They'll have secrets... Dreams. Decent looking setup, though I agree with AF you are gonna need a nice screen to really enjoy it.
