used car for weekend toy - Page 3

A six speed manual transmission Nissan Altima with a 3.5 liter blown six in it. It's the perfect cheap sleeper that lasts forever. Yeah I was the kid who put rodded big blocks in things like Impalas.

Yeah, when someone tells me they want a fun drive for very little money up front, hard to think of anything other than a V12 Jag. When you rev that puppy up

I love audi and own one, but an a4/a6 is not a fun weekend car for a grown man with kids. The a4 is what the well off middle class gets their kid for high school/college and the a6 is what you get when you have two kids. Fun should mean two doors, huge engine and possibly convertible.

Or you can be like ed and get a sybian as a weekend toy.

I was referring to the V-12 engine, not the Jag in particular, although I'm a huge fan of the XJ-S.

Right. With you. Know that you and I are of like mind on -12s. The CL600 is a nice car I have seen a few and did contemplate.... MB 12s are nice. I absolutely like them all excepting the S65, which seems too dull a body for it. ~ H

How about an older Mazda RX7? Tons of cheap parts for modding, etc.

The Q45 is a good car but it seems inconsistent with the Miata and Integra.

He clearly said with an automatic, which makes the RX7, Miata, and Integra . . . suboptimal choices.

Thought RX-7 was a nightmare to maintain

This is the first XJS I've seen that isn't ugly as sin. The hardtop goes a long way towards making the design seem more cohesive.

Our neighbors own an absolutely HIDEOUS silver targa-type model.

FWIW, my parents bought me an '82 Mercedes 300D just over a year ago for $5k. In just over 8 months as a daily driver, the repair bills have totalled $4k. It's a nice car in great condition, but it's old and shit breaks. When shit breaks on a luxury marque, repairs are expensive, regardless of the car's age or purchase price.
