Sore back rollerblading

I have been rollerblading (inline skating) this week and after about 10 minutes I start getting a sore lower back. Does anyone know why? Does it mean I am not using proper posture, that I have weak lower back muscles, a bone problem, what? Thanks in advance.

Rollerblading involves lots of legs and some back. I wouldn't be surprised if your groin muscles hurt also. That sounds typical of that excercise. It will help more if you get lower (bend the legs) and skate more with your legs than your back (like sitting on a toilet-for lack of a better explanation). You will also be more stable on your skates.

I skated (ice hockey and blading) for about 20 years and after not playing for a while my back would ache.

My guess is weak lower back muscles. Look how far bent over you are while you're doing it. Other activities don't really get these muscles working.

My guess is that it's a combination of lack of proper posture, and lack of lower back muscle. Like tck mentioned, try focusing skating from your legs, and bend your knees a little more. Also try to keep your back fairly straight.

Thanks to all. I will try more knee bend with better posture and report back.

also, if you watch the inline skaters on t.v. (i do it all the time ^ ^) you will notice they always have their back arched/bent over which can lead to the pains but also makes you gain much more speed

the combination of better muscle conditioning and better balance that comes with practice should alleviate the back soreness a bit.

in the meantime, invest in some Ben-Gay ultra strength.
