Send in your gold via mail service

I see those commercials now all the time ever since gold shot up.

They send you an envelope to put in all your gold jewelry, mail it first class and then they assess what they give you.

I dont have any gold i need to sell but just curious as to how anyone would trust doing this:

1) gold for cash! right on the envelope, who is to say no one will steal the envelope either from the street or from a postal worker

2) who is to determine what you actually sent? they say you sent us this but the actual gold content is that, so we only give you this much. yeah, what if you disagree? they still have your gold in hand!!

3) just smells like fraud.

anyone ever did this? or have any info on this?

Agree completely. I see the ads as well and can't believe anyone would send stuff in. But, apparently they must be because the ads keep running.

Plus, wouldn't this be a great way to fence stolen jewelry? Break into somebody's house, send off the gold and it's probably melted down before the police report even gets filed.

I can see Glenn Beck melting down your gold that you send via Cash for Gold and selling it to his viewers via Goldline!

They've been having tons of complaints and I think they recently got sued too...

Here's an example of the complaints they get;

I'd be upset to be married to anyone who felt they had lots of "spare gold lying around the house." Chances are, I would've kicked in for a lot of that now seemingly disposable gold at one point.

I've even seen it on local news channels that this stuff has been proven to be a scam. really don't know how it's still on the air (or in business)

nice. i had no idea. i am surprised too how these are still on air. there is absolutely no way a business can run like this and have no complaints or even a lawsuit. im glad about this.

I heard MC Hammer is now a shareholder in cash4gold.com

cash4gold.com is a scam. Period. Read the reports on ripoffreport.com, there are tons.

One of their most common scams (though they have many) is waiting to mail the check out after they told you they have. By the time you get the check and decide that the amount they gave you is a joke of an offer, you can't mail it back, because the 14 day "no questions asked return policy" already expired.

I had a handful of very thoughtless gifts (i.e. gold rings, chains, etc!) collecting dust, so I set out to find a reputable gold buyer. There's a lot of info on the legit buyers vs. the scammers (mentioned above). Key is to find a buyer who publishes the rates they're buying each day. I was emailed a Fed Ex label, mailed my gold and received a call the next day with the offer, which I accepted. They mailed me a check for $600~ the next day. I'm sure the gold I sold was worth a bit more, but I was glad to get rid of the pinky ring, among other items, that I only wore on Halloween!

wow really.
i would understand if it is just little gold here and there, but i would wonder if they would still be honest if you sent them let say, a 1 pound gold bullion bar (16,000+ USD).
i mean, they have it in their hands. you really cant do anything if theyrun off with it.

these people are the scum of the earth They're taking advantage of a high gold market and relatively slow economy. One ad has 5 reasons why you should and, while I cannot remember them all, they go something like this:

1) it costs money to store
2) it can get broken
3) your kids will fight over it
4) you don't wear it
and I cant remember 5.

These people are taking other people's heirlooms and treasured valuables for a profit and I can't stand that shit.

P.S they are legit and aren't scamming you by not giving you anything in return. They basically underpay you for each individual item, gather them together, smelt the metals and sell them off.
