+1. They also stretch out quite a bit.

Crew L or L in general and would going TTS mean getting my natural medium or my typical J. Crew Small?

edit: After comparing inseam lengths to my favorite RRL shorts I think the 9 inch would work better.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Thought you got the shorts to wear with the tees. I am a normal L AND J. Crew L, yes, I know that is quite the conundrum. I'm 6'3 and I have pretty long arms, so L fits pretty good...gives me the best outcome.

tcolberg,

Have you tried on a small in a classic fit? Curious to see how that fits you.

I have a smaller frame than you and before I saw your pics, I thought if I was about your size, I'd move up to a medium. But now I'm not so sure. Are you able to close that top button of the small shirt? I know you wear it unbuttoned, though I wonder if it's too tight that you are unable to.

Tcolberg - The small fits a lot better than the Medium, but maybe try not tucking the shirt in as much, so there's more room near the collar.

I haven't tried any of the classic fit shirts since I don't think I'd want anything baggier than the "tailored" medium. I'm just under 5'8'' and 145lbs. I think I was able to close the top button on the small shirt because my neck circumference is only 15-15.5'', but I think it would pull too much because of my shoulders if worn buttoned.

I don't think the small classic fit would be baggier than a medium tailored. Granted, the only comparison I know of is to the medium chambray shirt which is described as a "tailored" fit. I bought two medium chambray shirts (vintage and grey) and they're baggier than my small classic fit shirt.

Right now I just wear the vintage one when I mow the lawn if it gets nippy outside.

IIRC, the chambray shirts are supposed to be looser fitting than the secret wash shirts, even if they are described as "tailored-fit". Fuck, where's Robert on a day like this?

Versus the small I tried on the other day at the store:

It seems to me that the small pulls a bit too much around the collarbones.

Oh, and one last thing, does anyone have a fit opinion on the officer's chinos? How do they compare to something like the classic fit Bowerys?

Medium doesn't look good.Like all shirts from Crew its defiantly blousy and too big in the arms

Small doesnt fit you perfectly either, as I, lots of the smalls pull at the collarbones cause Jcrew does not understand the concept of shoulders and making a shirt actually tailored fit

Ditch Jcrew unless the shirt fits exactly perfect.I've tried on 4 of the same shirt and all of them fit differently. It's frustrating
No such thing as ''I have broad shoulders"its the company doesn't know how to proportion their shit.

Dammit. I ordered a small linen shirt using the birthday coupon. If I don't like it, I'll just take it back. I suppose you're right, but where else to get a decent variety of shirts for <$100? RL Custom Fit and BB Extra Slim Fit I guess? But even those are a bit more expensive than J.Crew.

I am in the same spot with crew sizing too. I don't think the pulling on the small is too bad in the pic -I'd just go with that. If it bothers you too much, get the Medium and take it to the tailor to have the sides taken in or have it darted and get the sleeves thinned. Costs about $15 - still makes the shirts a decent price.

I haven't found much in this price range that fits decently/is decent quality/has as much variety.

Ha. I ordered two small linen shirts, got them yesterday and they were both gigantic. Gigantically gigantic. No more buying their stuff without trying it on first.
