J Crew is so popular right now you are lucky to get anything on sale.

I kinda like that J Crew stuff is in high demand and that they DON'T have sales. Lowers the factor of me having to kick myself after buying a shirt for $70 and finding it for $30 two weeks later...

BR has some good stuff. I alternate between J Crew and BR. I like BR's chinos, belts, and blazers. Surprisingly I went into the store two days ago and found a nice utility army green colored shirt cut slim in small that fit really well on me. Material was very nice made of 100% cotton. Definitely a versatile piece. I'll try and post some pics later

What are people's thoughts on these Panama hats? I am going to the beach for a week in May and I want to get one.

The Panama Hat

You do realize that the J Crew one is a women's hat, right?

This is one of those things that I see no reason to pay J Crew markup for. Just go into a drugstore and buy one of their $15 -$20 hats. They all look and work the same.

It's not a women's hat. It's a unisex hat being sold on the site as a women's hat. At my store they have them both in men's and women's sections. It's made by the Panama Hat Company, which sells the same hats on their site as men's hats. Also, the J.Crew one is $58 (plus student discount) while the one at TPHC is $67, so it's a bit cheaper to get it from J.Crew. The 2nd hat I posted is $33 at TPHC. I could just get jeans at Wal-mart for $15-$20 since the all essentially look and work the same by your logic.

Any other hat options? I'd rather get a fedora than a trillby, but am open to looking at various things.

I stand corrected. Actually, the reason I thought of this is that I bought an Indiana Jones-style hat at a drugstore once in an emergency situation, and then a short while later I saw the same hat in a clothing store for double the price. Same exact hat, same exact brand. For the record, I like the look of #2 better, although you'd have to be careful about how much sun it lets through if that matters for you.

What is so wrong with a bucket hat, particularly for the beach? JCrew makes a good one of these.

Nothing wrong with a baseball cap on the beach as long as you protect those ears with sun stick.

I'd love a beat up baseball cap too. Not sure about the bucket hat, and how it would look for me. Might work out, I'd just have to try on. My skin is extremely fair so I am highly prone to sunburn so I definitely need the sunscreen.

These hats get the back of your neck covered, too.

I went to the J Crew Outlet in Las Vegas and they had the Chambray shirt for like $30-35 and I wish I bought it.

And on that note, where are the clearence centers nearby to NYC ? I really don't mind an hour or so drive so it technically doesn't have to be really close to NYC. The outlet store at Woodbury Commons consistently has garbage., IMO at least.
